#209
And afterward they must recite the praise, which is the secret of the moon — which is Malchut — that separates from the Other Side (Sitra Achra) on this day in order to illuminate from the sun. And this is: “לְדָוִד בְּשַׁנּוֹתוֹ אֶת טַעְמוֹ לִפְנֵי אֲבִימֶלֶךְ וַיְגָרְשֵׁהוּ וַיֵּלַךְ” “Of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed” (Psalms 34:1). For after she separated from the Sitra Achra, behold she united with the sun, which is Zeir Anpin.
And this praise is in the order of twenty-two letters, at the beginning of the verses, that the sun inserts letters into the moon. And this praise contains the separation of the moon from the Sitra Achra, and the praise of the twenty-two letters that the sun inserts into the moon.
Notes:
The Zohar teaches that after the illumination from Zeir Anpin (“the sun”) on Shabbat day, one must recite the praise of Psalms 34, which enacts Malchut (“the moon”) fully separating from the Sitra Achra (the impure side) and uniting with Zeir Anpin. The twenty-two initial letters of the verses represent the twenty-two holy letters that Zeir Anpin inserts into Malchut, completing her rectification, purification, and illumination on Shabbat. This praise thus symbolizes Malchut’s liberation from impurity and her reception of divine structure and light from above.

And afterward, it is the union and ascent of the Queen with her husband, Zeir Anpin. And this is “תְּפִלָּה לְמֹשֶׁה אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים” “A prayer of Moses, the man of God” (Psalms 90:1). For “prayer” (tefillah) is Malchut, and Moses is the secret of Zeir Anpin. This indicates the union and cleaving of the woman to her husband — that is, “tefillah to Moses.” And to spread right and left — which are Chessed and Gevurah — to receive her, and to be together in one union.
Notes:
The Zohar identifies Psalms 90 (“A prayer of Moses, the man of God”) as the mystical expression of Malchut (“tefillah/prayer”) ascending and uniting with Zeir Anpin (“Moses”). This union follows the prior illumination and separation from impurity on Shabbat day. Chessed (right) and Gevurah (left) extend to embrace and receive Malchut fully, enabling complete face-to-face cleaving and oneness between the feminine (Queen/Malchut) and masculine (Zeir Anpin) aspects, completing the divine harmony and revelation.
