Daily Zohar # 5117 – Vayikra – The righteous shall see His face
Daily Zohar 5117

Zohar Vayikra

#244
In the midst of this, he saw that the sun shone and that blackness passed away. Rabbi Shimon said: Certainly the world has been sweetened. He entered his house and expounded: “כִּי צַדִּיק יְהוָה צְדָקוֹת אָהֵב יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ פָנֵימוֹ” “For YHVH is righteous, He loves righteousness; the upright shall behold His face” (Psalms 11:7). What is “פָנֵימוֹ” (His face)? What is the reason that it is written “כִּי צַדִּיק יְהוָה צְדָקוֹת אָהֵב” “For YHVH is righteous, He loves righteousness”? Because “יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ פָנֵימוֹ” “the upright shall behold His face.” That is, the supernal faces of the people of the world, for they must request mercy from the Holy One, blessed be He, for everything they need.
#245
Rabbi Elazar, his son, said to him: If so, it should have said “יָשָׁר יֶחֱזֶה פָנֵימוֹ” or “יְשָׁרִים יֶחֱזוּ” — what is the meaning of “יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ”?
He said to him: It is a supernal secret. For these are “days of old” — that is, the sefirot of Atika Kadisha (the Ancient Holy One), the Hidden of all hidden, which is Keter — and “days of the world” — which are the sefirot of Zeir Anpin, which are called “His face” (פָנֵימוֹ, panimo). They behold one another in a straight way, as is fitting to behold — that is, the face of Zeir Anpin beholds the face of Atika, and the face of Atika beholds the face of Zeir Anpin, in a straight way, without turning to the right or to the left. This is the measure of the verse: “יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ פָנֵימוֹ” “the upright shall behold His face.”
Notes:
After the decree was annulled, Rabbi Shimon saw the sun brighten again and declared that the world had been sweetened. He then expounded on Psalms 11:7, explaining that when the upright (yesharim) exist in the world, they cause the supernal faces — the sefirot structures of Atika Kadisha (Keter) and Zeir Anpin — to behold one another directly and harmoniously, without deviation to right or left. This straight, balanced gaze between the supernal faces brings mercy and rectification to the lower world. The tzaddik’s presence and prayer enable this alignment, allowing the world to receive divine blessing and protection. The teaching highlights how the merit of the righteous creates harmony in the highest realms, which in turn sustains and sweetens all existence below.
