Daily Zohar # 5297 – Toldot – Jacob the lot of His inheritance
Daily Zohar 5297

#152
And further, Jacob was blessed above and below, in the heavens and earth of above and in this world, that is, in the coming of the Mashiach, as it is said below, and Esau only below, in the heavens and earth of this world. And even though it is written, “וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר תָּרִיד וּפָרַקְתָּ עֻלּוֹ מֵעַל צַוָּארֶךָ” “And it shall be when you become restless, that you shall break his yoke from off your neck” (Genesis 27:40), that is that if Israel sin the blessings will be nullified, this is said of the heavens and earth that are here in this world, but above nothing is nullified. As it is written, “כִּי חֵלֶק יְהוָה עַמּוֹ יַעֲקֹב חֶבֶל נַחֲלָתוֹ” “For the portion of YHVH is His people, Jacob the lot of His inheritance” (Deuteronomy 32:9). Come and see. When Jacob and Esau began to take the blessings, Jacob took his portion above, and Esau took his portion below.
Notes:
Jacob was blessed above and below, in the coming of the Mashiach, while Esau was blessed only below. The verse of breaking the yoke applies only in this world; above nothing is nullified, for Jacob is the portion of YHVH. Jacob took the upper portion and Esau the lower.
#153
Rabbi Yossi, the son of Rabbi Shimon, the son of Lakonia, said to Rabbi Elazar, Have you not heard something from your father, why the blessings with which Isaac blessed Jacob were not fulfilled? The blessings with which Isaac blessed Esau were all fulfilled?
Notes:
Rabbi Yossi asks why Isaac’s blessings to Jacob were not fulfilled while those to Esau were fulfilled.
#154
He said to him, All these blessings were fulfilled, and likewise the other blessings with which the Holy One, blessed be He, blessed Jacob were fulfilled. But at first Jacob took all the blessings only above, from the upper heavens and earth, and therefore they are with him lacking completeness, all the while that he has not taken from below, as above nearby, and Esau took below. And afterward, when the King Mashiach will arise, Jacob will take from above and from below, that is also from the lower heavens and earth, and Esau will be lost from all, and he will have no portion and no inheritance and no remembrance in the world. And this is what is written, “וְהָיָה בֵית יַעֲקֹב אֵשׁ וּבֵית יוֹסֵף לֶהָבָה וּבֵית עֵשָׂו לְקַשׁ” “And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble” (Obadiah 1:18), because Esau will be lost from all. Jacob will inherit two worlds: this world, that is the lower heavens and earth, and the world to come, that is the upper heavens and earth. And one should not ask, Behold, even before the coming of the Mashiach, Jacob receives from the lower heavens and earth, that is, in the time of the Temple, and on Shabbats and festivals, and by means of prayers. The matter is that since they are not permanent always, they are not considered as receiving, but in the future this will be permanent.
Notes:
All the blessings were fulfilled, but at first Jacob took only the upper ones, so they lacked completeness, while Esau took the lower. When the Mashiach comes, Jacob will take both, Esau will be lost from all, and Jacob will inherit this world and the world to come. What is received now from below is not permanent, and therefore not counted as true receiving.
