In the context of ritual circumcision (brit milah), פריעה (peri’ah ,priah) refers to the act of “uncovering.” After the removal of the foreskin (ערלה, orlah), priah involves the peeling back of the thin membrane beneath the foreskin to fully expose the glans of the male organ. This step of the brit milah is considered an essential part of the ritual, as it symbolizes the complete removal of barriers and the full entry into the covenant with Hashem.

Priah carries a deeper spiritual meaning. It represents the removal of inner barriers that hinder divine illumination. While circumcision (milah) signifies the initial step of purification—removing the outer obstruction—priah symbolizes a more profound revelation, exposing the essence and allowing a fuller connection with the Light.
