Zohar Vayakhel
To increase the understanding of this study, It would be good to read the book of Jonah. It has only four short chapters. #81
The Zohar tells us that from the previous studies we learn that the Torah is more than the literal meanings. When the Bible says the story of Jonah it has a deeper meaning. The name Jonah means a ‘Dove.’ ‘Jonah went into the ship’ is the aspect of the soul that comes down to this world and enter the body of a man. The soul is called ‘A Dove’ because it leaves the body when the body refuses her.
Leviticus 25:17
“’So you shall not cheat one his counterpart, but you shall fear your God; for I am YHVH your God.”
The soul is our ‘counterpart’ and should be in good relationship with the body. A man walks in this world and cheats his soul is like a ship that is about to break in a big stormy sea.
Jonah 1:4
“YHVH hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea so that the ship was about to break up.”
#82
When a person sins in this world and thinks that he could run away from God, assuming that God is not watching brings judgment on himself.
‘YHVH hurled a great wind on the sea’ is the aspect of judgment that God brings on the person to remind him of his sins and accept his judgment.
Lesson;
We read the book of Jonah on Yom Kippur because it symbolizes the path of the soul and its correction. Jonah tried to run away from his process, but he was corrected by the judgment inflicted on him by God. He then returned to follow God’s ‘assignment’ and bring a positive outcome.
The soul and the body come together into this world. The soul desires purity and getting closer to God. The body needs to serve the soul by following the laws of the Torah. When the body sins, it is an aspect of cheating.
We cannot run away from our sins. Even if we do wrong without directly hurting others, it is still a sin. It doesn’t matter if others see us or not; the action of the body ‘contaminates’ the soul and Judgment would come sooner or later. A correction must be made because nothing is forgotten.
More: When you see in your dreams a boat, a ship or any vessel above water, it represents the state of your soul. If the vessel is big and better in size and beauty, it indicates a high state of the soul. Vast and beautiful ship means protection of the Shechina. If the waters are not calm or stormy, then it implies disturbance/judgments on the path taken by the soul and body.
