Tikkun 25 – 2

The Zohar teaches us that the air enters the lungs through five ‘wings’ like the five books of the Torah.

The pure animal that can be slaughtered for food should have lungs without blemishes in order to be kosher to eat.

The lungs are the connection to the life force of the Creator that sustains us. The word אויר, air has אור in it, which is Light and Yod, י, the letter for the 10 Sefirot.

When we breathe we don’t just inhale gas that keeps us alive, we take in the energy of life. Everything that enters our body can be positive or negative, life or death.

Even if a pure animal was slaughtered properly with a blessings and a blemish was found in its lungs, it becomes unkosher for consumption.

Any blemish in the lungs represents flaw in the spiritual connection and we don’t want to connect to flawed energy.

The Torah is the source of life for the whole world, the Zohar reveals this energy of the Torah every day and not just on Shabbat and special days.

The first words we say when we wake up in the morning is

Translation
I am grateful to you, living and eternal king that you returned to me, my soul, by your mercy, great is your faithfulness.

Every day there is a renewal of the connection of the soul with the life force. After midnight, the light of the new day begins to appear and we should connect to this new light with a special connection. We usually say it in the morning but if a person works through the night then he should say it after midnight. If you go to sleep much after midnight then wait after the soul wakes up from sleep to say the special connection. The night’s sleep ‘recharges’ the soul with another aspect of life force and it should precede the morning blessing.

The word מוֹדֶה is מ- הוד, from Hod, which is the Sefira that forms the vessel. The night sleep rebuilds the vessel and gives it life energy.

The work for king, מֶלֶךְ, as explained in previous Daily Zohar (#532), connects us to the three levels of the soul. It acknowledges the light force as sovereign on the body.

The word נִשְׁמָתִי, ‘my soul’ is the same as נְשִמָתִי, ‘my breath’. This is to tell us that the life force of the soul is connected to breathing.

This connection is not a ‘blessing’ per say because it is said after the soul shifts from one day to another and experiences a form of death. In that state we don’t use the name of YHVH until after we connect back to the soul and wash our hands properly (Netilah) to remove the aspect of death from ourselves.

It is good to follow the ways of great kabbalists. To avoid experiencing ‘death’ while sleeping, they wake up before midnight, study Zohar until after midnight. Then they say the “Mo’De Ani” above followed by washing of the hands and recite the morning blessings. After that they study more Zohar and go back to sleep.
