Leviticus 23:24
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.”
Psalm 81:4
“Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon, At the full moon, on our solemn feast day.”
Rabbi Yitzchak quotes this verse and says, praised are Israel, whom the Holy One Blessed be He, chose them and from all the nations of the world that worship idols. He has brought them from afar to be near him, as it is written;
Joshua 24:2
“And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says YHVH God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods.”
This verse shows us that the Holy One, Blessed be He brought Abraham, the patriarch, from afar.
The Zohar asks, “Why did Joshua say “Thus said Hashem…” when it was evident that the people knew these facts.
#188
He continued to explain that the entire Torah, as the Holy name, has sides of revealed and concealed. The Holy name is written יהוה YHVH and read as אדני ADNY.
And he answers, “If Joshua and Israel knew why it is written; “Thus says YHVH God. ” Surely the secret of this is that Hashem did great kindness to Israel. He chose the patriarchs, and made them sacred chariots for his honor, and brought them out of the precious and holy supernal river, the light of all luminaries, that is Binah, to be as a crown for himself.
The patriarchs are the secret of Chessed, Gevurah, and Tiferet of Zeir Anpin. They were receiving from the left line of Binah is Chokmah without Chassadim, which connects to other gods. After Zeir Anpin was elevated to Binah, the left’s power decreased, and they received the Mochin of the river, Binah. This is the secret of “The other side of the River.”
