184. כְּשֶׁמֵּאִיר הַיּוֹם בְּיוֹם שַׁבָּת, עֲלִיַּת הַשִּׂמְחָה עוֹלָה בְּכָל הָעוֹלָמוֹת בִּמְנוּחָה בְּשִׂמְחָה. אָז (תהלים יט) הַשָּׁמַיִם מְסַפְּרִים כְּבוֹד אֵל וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו מַגִּיד הָרָקִיעַ. מִי הַשָּׁמַיִם? אֵלּוּ שָׁמַיִם שֶׁהַשֵּׁם הָעֶלְיוֹן נִרְאֶה בָהֶם, שֶׁהַשֵּׁם הַקָּדוֹשׁ רָשׁוּם בָּהֶם.
185. מְסַפְּרִים – מַה הֵם מְסַפְּרִים? אִם תֹּאמַר כְּמִי שֶׁמְּדַבֵּר סִפּוּר דְּבָרִים – לֹא כָּךְ. אֶלָּא שֶׁמְּאִירִים וְנוֹצְצִים בְּהִתְנוֹצְצוּת שֶׁל אוֹר עֶלְיוֹן וְעוֹלִים בַּשֵּׁם שֶׁכּוֹלֵל בְּאוֹר שֶׁל שְׁלֵמוּת עֶלְיוֹנָה.

183. רַב הַמְנוּנָא סָבָא, כְּשֶׁהָיָה עוֹלֶה מֵהַנָּהָר בְּעֶרֶב שַׁבָּת, הָיָה יוֹשֵׁב רֶגַע אֶחָד וּמֵרִים עֵינָיו, וְהָיָה שָׂמֵחַ וְהָיָה אוֹמֵר שֶׁהָיָה יוֹשֵׁב לִרְאוֹת אֶת שִׂמְחַת הַמַּלְאָכִים הָעֶלְיוֹנִים, אֵלֶּה עוֹלִים וְאֵלֶּה יוֹרְדִים. וּבְכָל עֶרֶב שַׁבָּת יוֹשֵׁב אָדָם בְּעוֹלַם הַנְּשָׁמוֹת. אַשְׁרֵי מִי שֶׁיּוֹדֵעַ בְּסוֹד רִבּוֹנוֹ.

Rav Hamnuna Saba, when he ascended from the river at the entry of Shabbat, would sit for one moment, lift his eyes, and rejoice. And he would say that he sits to behold the joy of the supernal angels — these ascending and those descending. And at every moment of the entry of Shabbat, a person sits in the world of souls. Fortunate is he who knows the secrets of his Master.

Rav Hamnuna Saba exemplifies the mystical awareness at Shabbat’s entry: after immersing in the river (a symbol of purification and renewal), he pauses in joy to witness the dynamic exchange of angels and souls — ascending and descending — in the heavenly realms. This vision reflects the cosmic movement described earlier: souls rising to the supernal Garden while others descend to crown Israel. At this sacred threshold, the awakened person spiritually “sits” in the world of souls, beholding divine processes. The main point is the supreme merit of knowing and perceiving these secrets of the Master, transforming ordinary Shabbat entry into a moment of profound revelation and rejoicing.

When the day dawned on the day of Shabbat, the joy ascended in all the worlds with pleasantness and gladness. Then: “הַשָּׁמַיִם מְסַפְּרִים כְּבוֹד אֵל וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו מַגִּיד הָרָקִיעַ” “The heavens declare the glory of God (אֵל), and the firmament tells the work of His hands” (Psalms 19:2). Who are the heavens? They are these heavens — meaning Zeir Anpin — in which the supernal Name appears, which is Ima, and the holy Name is inscribed in them, which is Aba. That is to say, heavens is Zeir Anpin, which contains the mochin (ג”ר, upper three sefirot) of Aba and Ima.

He asks: What is the meaning of “מְסַפְּרִים” (they declare/tell)? If you say, like one who tells a story of things, it is not so. Rather, they shine and sparkle with the sparkling of the supernal light, and they ascend in the Name that is included in the illumination of the supernal perfection — that is, in the Name YHVH, which contains יה (Yah), which is the supernal perfection, namely Aba and Ima (Chokmah and Binah).
Notes:
These paragraphs describe the elevation at dawn on Shabbat day: joy rises through all worlds, and the verse “The heavens declare the glory of YHVH” (Psalms 19:2) is fulfilled. The “heavens” are the sefirot of Zeir Anpin, illuminated and inscribed with the mochin of Aba (Chokhmah) and Ima (Binah). “מְסַפְּרִים” does not mean narrating stories, but shining and sparkling with supernal light, ascending within the full Name YHVH — specifically through יה (Yah), the supernal perfection of the divine parents. This reveals Shabbat day as the time when Zeir Anpin fully manifests the light of Aba and Ima, causing all worlds to radiate divine glory in perfect harmony.
