Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#359
He said to them: One day I was going to the city of Lod. I entered the city and leaned myself against a certain wall, and Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai was in that house. And I heard from his mouth this verse: “אוֹדְךָ לְעוֹלָם כִּי עָשִׂיתָ” “I will give thanks to You forever, for You have done it.” “I will give thanks” — King David said it concerning that other world, that is, Malchut, which He made, for King David is attached to it in that world, and in it he inherited the kingship. “And I will wait for Your Name, for it is good” — this is the Holy One, blessed be He, in the union of this world which is called “good,” that is, Yessod. And the verse explains: When is it called “good”? “In the sight of Your pious ones.” He asks: Who are your pious ones?
#360
And he answers: Rather, there is Chessed, and there is Chessed — that is, supernal Chessed which is Chessed of Zeir Anpin, and lower Chessed, which is Chessed that clothes in Malchut by way of Netzach and Hod (as explained in Vayechi, #176). And these, in Netzach and Hod, are called “the faithful Chassadim of David” (as in Terumah, #585). And when these Chassadim of David, which are Netzach and Hod, are filled from that good which is drawn from Atika Kadisha, which is Keter, then Yessod is called “good,” and then it is found “good in their sight,” in the sight of Your pious ones, which are Netzach and Hod. And just as it is found that he, Yessod, is in the good, so too he sweetens that other world, which is Malchut, and everything is found in blessing. And therefore David was waiting for this level, which is Yessod called “good,” that illuminates that world to which he is attached — that is, Malchut.
Notes:
The merchant recounts hearing Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai explain Psalms 52:11. David gives thanks for Malchut (“that other world” which God made), to which he is attached and through which he inherited kingship. He waits for the Name to be revealed as “good” through Yesod.
The “pious ones” are Netzach and Hod, the “faithful Chassadim of David.” When they are filled from the supernal good of Keter, Yessod becomes “good” and sweetens Malchut, bringing blessing to all. David’s longing was for this revelation of goodness in Yessod that illuminates Malchut. This reveals the deep connection between the patriarchs, the sefirot, and the merit of King David.
