Daily Zohar # 5188 – Vayikra – He loves selflessness
Daily Zohar 5188

Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#376
The Holy One, blessed be He, said: “אֵלַי קֹרֵא מִשֵּׂעִיר” “To me one calls from Seir” — its meaning is: I heard a voice in the exile of Seir, from those who are oppressed among them, from those who lie in the dust. And what do they say? “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?” They are asking Me concerning My Queen, who is called “night,” and they say: What have You done with My Queen?
#377
Then the Holy One, blessed be He, gathered His entourage — that is, the supernal angels close to Him — and said: See My beloved children, who are oppressed in exile, and they abandon their own distress and ask concerning the Queen, and they say to Me: Watchman, You who are called Watchman, where is Your guarding? Where is the guarding of Your house? “What of the night?” What have You done with the night — with the Malchut who is called night? Thus have You guarded her? “What of the night?” — it is also Malchut, for sometimes she is called “laylah” (לַיְלָה ,night) and sometimes “leil” (לֵיל, night). Before she united with Zeir Anpin, she is called “leil,” and when she united, she is called “laylah” (as explained in Parashat Bo, #131). This is what is written: “לַיְלָה שִׁמּוּרִים הוּא” “It is a night of watching” (Exodus 12:42), and it is written: “הוּא הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה” “It is this night” (Exodus 12:42).
Notes:
The cry “A voice calls from Seir” is the voice of Israel in the bitter exile of Edom/Rome, pleading with God about the fate of His Queen — the Shekhinah/Malchut, called “night.” Despite their own suffering, the people prioritize the Shekhinah’s well-being.
Hashem gathers the heavenly hosts and highlights the greatness of Israel’s selflessness. The double “What of the night?” alludes to the two aspects of Malchut: “leil” before full union with Zeir Anpin, and “laylah” after union. The verse from Exodus 12 about the night of watching connects to this mystery, showing how the redemption is tied to the proper union of the divine masculine and feminine. This passage portrays Israel’s deep love for the Shekhinah amid exile.
