Daily Zohar 5200

Zohar Vayikra

#395
Rabbi Yossi opened and said, “וְלֹא אָמַר אַיֵּה אֱלוֹהַּ עֹשָׂי נֹתֵן זְמִרוֹת בַּלָּיְלָה” “But none says: ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night’” (Job 35:10). Come and see, at the time when the north wind awakens and the night is divided, we have already established (Vayakhel #21) that one flame comes out and strikes under the wings of the rooster, and it beats its wings and calls. And that flame, when it reaches it and awakens against it, it looks at it and trembles and calls, because it looks and watches for the honor of its Master, to do His will and calls the sons of man to rise and serve the Holy One, blessed be He.
#396
And therefore it is called “שֶׂכְוִי” (sekvi), which is a term for looking. And it is called “גֶבֶר” (gever) because it awakens with the flame of Gevurah, and on the side of Gevurah, it comes to awaken in the world. Then these sons of faith rise, and give strength and power to the Congregation of Israel, which is Malchut, and this is called the song of the Torah. And about this, that he rose at midnight, David merited the kingship, he and his sons forever and for all generations.
Notes:
Rabbi Yossi teaches that at midnight, when the north wind stirs, and a divine flame awakens the rooster, the bird calls out in honor of its Master. This inspires people of faith to rise and serve the Holy One, blessed be He. The rooster called שֶׂכְוִי (sekvi), for its watchful gaze, and “גבר” (gever) for its strength awakens through the power of Gevurah at midnight. This stirs the faithful to strengthen Malchut through Torah song and prayer. David, who rose at midnight, merited eternal kingship for himself and his descendants because of this.
