Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#397
And when the rooster calls, and the sons of man are sleeping in their beds and do not awaken, the rooster calls afterward and says what it says, and we have already established (Shelach #171) and afterward it beats its wings and says, Woe to so-and-so, who is scorned by his Master, abandoned by his Master, for his spirit did not awaken, and he did not look to the honor of the King.
#398
When the day lights up, a herald calls about him and says, “וְלֹא אָמַר אַיֵּה אֱלוֹהַּ עֹשָׂי נֹתֵן זְמִרוֹת בַּלָּיְלָה” “But none says: ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night’” (Job 35:10), in order to help him with these praises, so that everything will be in one help. The meaning is that Malchut gives songs to Zeir Anpin at night, in order to help the person so that he, too, will awaken with these praises. And when the person praises and engages in Torah, he raises Mayin Nukvin (female waters), and helps Malchut, and the two are found in one help. He asks, “עֹשָׂי” “my Makers,” it should have said “my Maker,” what is “my Makers.” And he answers, Rather, at the time that a person rises at midnight and engages in the song of Torah, for the song of Torah is called only at night, when he is found in the occupation of Torah. When the day lights up, the Holy One, blessed be He, and the Congregation of Israel fix him with one thread of Chessed that he is saved from everything, and to illuminate him among the upper and lower ones.
Notes:
When the rooster calls at midnight to awaken people for service, those who remain asleep in their beds bring rebuke upon themselves. The rooster laments that their spirit did not stir to honor the King.
The verse from Job highlights how songs of praise at night join human effort with Malchut to support Zeir Anpin. Torah study at midnight raises female waters, uniting the person with the divine in mutual help. At daybreak, the Holy One, blessed be He, and the Congregation of Israel draw a thread of Chessed to protect and illuminate him.
