Zohar Naso
Lamentation 2:19
“קוּמִי רֹנִּי בליל (בַלַּיְלָה), לְרֹאשׁ אַשְׁמֻרוֹת–שִׁפְכִי כַמַּיִם לִבֵּךְ, נֹכַח פְּנֵי אֲדֹנָי”
“Arise, cry aloud in the night At the beginning of the night watches; Pour out your heart like water Before the presence of the Lord (ADNY)”
The Zohar tells us that we need to use our throat to produce different kinds of singing. The throat is a musical instrument with the six rings of the windpipe, it is the aspect of the letter Vav ו and Zeir Anpin. The heart, that resides between the wings of the lungs, is the aspect of Binah. It provides the fire energy that drives the lungs, blowing the wind from the five loves up and out through the throat and mouth to produce the sound.
The blowing of the Shofar on Rosh Hashanah uses similar elevation from our heart that is Binah, we produce a sound that has affinity with the level of Binah on the spiritual level.
The voice is the inner energy that is formed to produce the sound when it comes out of the mouth. It’s what gives us the elevation we need to a higher spiritual levels in order to receive the light of Binah.
קול = Sound = 136
סולם = Ladder = 136
ממון = Money = 136
צום = Fasting = 136
These actions remove judgment from the life of the person who follows them and provide spiritual elevations. The sound of our prayers carries our meditations. The study of the sacred text gives us ladder for elevation to Binah. Rabbi Ashlag called his commentary on the Zohar “The Ladder” to let us understand that the more we study the Zohar the higher we can climb on the ladder to Binah.
Money is a tool to support continuation of Light to the world. With fasting we remove the desires of the physical body and allow our souls easier elevations during the prayers.
The aspects of Ladder, Money and Fasting are easy to use. The sound should carry our inner and pure voice with desire to come closer to the Light. It should come out as a sound that breaks all spiritual blockages from Malchut to Binah.
To produce such sound one should prepare himself for it. Start by slow humming sounds that vibrate the lungs. Consciousness should be a true desire to feel oneness with the Light. As the sound vibrates start by singing simple syllables from low to high tones. Then use sacred words of prayer from a book or from your heart. Open your heart and let the feelings come out through the tones of your sound. You don’t have to be a singer or gifted with a great voice. If you reach o point that tears are coming out because of the joyful experience then you are in an elevated state. Keep pure consciousness at all times. If negative thoughts invade your mind and can’t be pushed away immediately then just stop and restart on another time.
The process of elevation goes from Malchut to Keter using the YHVH. You can start from meditating on your personal Tikkun and pray to relieve it. Second level of elevation is the aspect of Vav of Zeir Anpin and the meditation should include the community and the environment. Third level is the aspect of the upper H of Binah and the meditation should be about our global and spiritual state. The fourth and highest level is the aspect of the Y of the name and Chokmah and Keter. On this level we can feel the Light as part of our existence.
Rabbi Shimon said (in the Talmud, Sukkah 45) “I saw people capable of elevation but they are few”. The meaning of his saying is that there are only few righteous people that can make spiritual elevations.
We may not be able to come closer to the level of Rabbi Shimon but by connecting to the Zohar with purity of our mouth and heart we can achieve higher level of elevation and experience closeness to the Light.
I repeat here what I said above. Stop your meditation if negative thoughts invade your mind. In such case you may climb the tree of the impure system.
Deuteronomy 6:5
“וְאָהַבְתָּ, אֵת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּכָל-לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל-נַפְשְׁךָ, וּבְכָל-מְאֹדֶךָ”
“You shall love YHVH your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Everything we do should be expressed with love to create the elevation we want to achieve.
The numerical value for פה, ‘Mouth’ is 85. The numerical value of the name of Zeir Anpin (יוד-הא-ואו-הא) that gives us the climbing ladder is 45. Together they are 130, which is ten times the value of the word ‘Love’, ‘אהבה’.
