This Zohar section teaches us the great value of Torah study and again quotes the verse from Songs 8:13.
“ הַיּוֹשֶׁבֶת בַּגַּנִּים, חֲבֵרִים מַקְשִׁיבִים לְקוֹלֵךְ–הַשְׁמִיעִנִי”
“O you who dwell in the gardens (Garden of Eden), with companions (Righteous souls) listening for your voice; let me (God) hear it.”
To explain why it is so, I will quote the following words of wisdom from the sages of the Talmud. This paragraph is part of our morning prayers.
Translation:
These are things that man enjoys their fruits in this world, while the principle remains for him in the World to Come:
Honoring father and mother, acts of kindness, and bringing peace between a man and his fellow. But the study of Torah is equal to them all.
The obvious question is, how come the study that doesn’t interact with other people can be of value that is equal to all of the other great actions.
Most people go out of their ways to help others and feel righteous about it. That is great and we should feel good about ourselves, in a humble way, doing good things for others. To understand the deeper meaning behind the words of the sages we should examine each of the items on the list.
1.Honoring Father and Mother – This is a basic action and by following it we are the first to benefit from it (almost for selfish reasons) because it connects us to Chokmah (Father) and Binah (Mother). We enjoy this light in this world and it helps us in the next world.
2. Acts of Kindness – When we help other people we increase the size and light of our vessel. With this kind of actions we help others and ourselves.
3. Bringing peace between people – This action is on a higher level because we break negativity and separations in order to bring peace between people. It brings the state of better life for the people and others in their environment.
4. The study of Torah is above all because when we study Torah we reveal the light of Creation in the world and everyone benefits from it. It is not limited to specific people or community; it spreads out to the world.
Rabbi Shimon was in a cave studying Torah and revealing the Zohar for 13 years. This light exists in the world and the more we share it, the more we and the entire world benefit from it.
When we invest time in Zohar study we give to the world and as the sages teach us, we keep the principal forever.
There is no bank in the world that can promise investment benefits in the next world.
The UnityZohar.com website is the ultimate tool to spread the light of the Zohar in the world. The Zohar is shown on the site in unique method that makes it the best way to reveal light in a global level.
It is very important not to miss any opportunity to act with kindness toward others because it is related to our personal Tikkun process but we should never forget that the ultimate goal of all Israelites is to support the global corrections and draw greater light to the world until the Final Redemption. That is when we can collect the benefits of our spiritual work.
