Zohar Vayechi

Genesis 47:28
“וַיְחִי יַעֲקֹב בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, שְׁבַע עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה”
“And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. ”

The Zohar explains that Jacob received the highest level of prophecy when he arrived to Egypt and saw Joseph.

Jacob (Tiferet) and Moses (Da’at) reached a high level of prophecy like no other prophets. The other prophets received their prophecies from the level of Netzach and Hod of Zeir Anpin “אַסְפַּקְלַרְיָה הַמְּאִירָה” “Illuminated mirror” This level is where the female aspect of the light, the Shechina, is reflected as mirror to the lower level of Malchut. Malchut is called “אספקלריא שאינה מאירה”, a mirror without illumination.

Jacob and Moses received from the higher level of Tiferet that is called a mirror with light.

Jacob as Tiferet lost his connection to the Shechina and lower level when he lost Joseph, who is Yessod. With the renewed connection Jacob’s connection to the Shechina re-established and he could prophecize and continue blessings to his children.

Lesson: The level of Yessod is called ‘חי’ ‘live’ and when we connect to it we bring light that is the energy of life from above and able to see beyond the ‘darkness’ of Malchut. With every spiritual connection, Zohar study and proper meditation, we develop greater ability to see the ‘light’ and its ‘reflections’ in the world.
