Zohar Ki Tetze
#47
Exodus 18:3
“וְאֵת שְׁנֵי בָנֶיהָ אֲשֶׁר שֵׁם הָאֶחָד גֵּרְשֹׁם כִּי אָמַר גֵּר הָיִיתִי בְּאֶרֶץ נָכְרִיָּה”
“and her two sons, of whom one was named Gershom, for Moses said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”
The Faithful Shepherd said that his level is the central column and called himself a ‘stranger’ in a foreign land that is the aspect of Zeir Anpin in exile for the sake of the children of Israel.
They asked him to explain the precept of leaving the crops in the corner of the field for the poor and stranger. This precept was done in the land of Israel, when the Holy One is in his place then why the ‘stranger’ is mentioned in this precept. Moses answered that the reason for that is to raise mercy on the souls that are not in their place.
The Shechina is the aspect of the soul that is away from the Holy One and considered as a ‘stranger’ in a foreign land. The Holy One Blessed Be He, is leaving his place that is the world to come and Binah, to ‘wonder’ after the Shechina, that is the aspect of the soul in this world.
Proverbs 27:8
“כְּצִפּוֹר נוֹדֶדֶת מִן קִנָּהּ כֵּן אִישׁ נוֹדֵד מִמְּקוֹמוֹ.”
“Like a bird that wanders from her nest, So is a man who wanders from his home.”
The ‘bird’ is the aspect of the soul. The Holy One protects the soul until she completes her time in this world. Also he promised to stay with the soul until she comes back to her original ‘nest’.
This Zohar describes this as the secret of the Redemption. When the children of Israel are in the land of Israel, the Holy One Blessed Be He, is in the aspect of ‘stranger’ for the souls that are ‘naked’ from spiritual garments. They can make their garments by following the Torah and precepts. Only ‘dressed’ souls can return to their place in the world to come, Binah.
With the positive actions of the precepts we add beautiful threads to our spiritual garments and earn merits when the Holy One comes to redeem us through the King Mashiach.
Many souls of the children of Israel are in a state of ‘stranger’. They incarnated in a ‘foreign’ body and should come closer to the ‘field’. The field is the aspect of the Light of the Torah/Zohar that helps them gather light from the ‘field’ and create the desired garments for their souls. The night prayer, ‘Arvit’ is the connection to the Central Column and draw mercy on the souls and at that time the Holy One also returns to his place.
