Zohar Vayishlach
#60
Jacob saw that the Shechina present in the tents of Rachel and Leah. He knew that the Shechina protects them so he put them in the camp behind the maids, Bilhah, Zilpah and their children.
Jacob prayers were focused on the first camp to have protection from God.
Genesis 32:10
“וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֱלֹהֵי אָבִי אַבְרָהָם וֵאלֹהֵי אָבִי יִצְחָק יְהוָה הָאֹמֵר אֵלַי שׁוּב לְאַרְצְךָ וּלְמוֹלַדְתְּךָ וְאֵיטִיבָה עִמָּךְ”
“And Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O YHVH who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your kindred, that I may do you good,’”
#61
Psalms 102:1,2
“תְּפִלָּה לְעָנִי כִי יַעֲטֹף וְלִפְנֵי יְהוָה יִשְׁפֹּךְ שִׂיחוֹ”
“יְהוָה, שִׁמְעָה תְפִלָּתִי וְשַׁוְעָתִי, אֵלֶיךָ תָבוֹא”
“A Prayer of the poor when he is faint and pours out his complaint before YHVH. Hear my prayer, O LORD! And let my cry for help come to You.”
Rabbi Yosei reveals that King David said that when he saw the ways of the poor. He was running away from King Saul that wanted to kill him and started his prayer for protection with these words.
The Zohar says that the prayers of the poor before God are prayers that accepted before all other prayers.
Lesson;
Jacob made efforts not to use the protection of the Shechina, not to lose merits so he put Leah and Rachel in the back camp. In his prayer Jacob ‘reminds’ God of the mission he put on him to return to the land of his parents. He expressed his desire to follow the will of God, ignoring any selfish desires.
Our prayers should be in similar form. Whatever we ask, should be for the purpose of following the ways of God. We ask for health and sustenance in order to be able to continue revealing light and do good deeds.
A poor person’s prayer is the aspect of coming with empty vessel. We have no light unless God fill our vessels with the light we need for fulfillment. A healthy person should know that his health is temporary and in constant need to have the light to sustain his health. A rich person may have a great business with great flow of income but without the support of the Light, he can not guarantee unexpected market change that may drop or eliminate his income. Without the Light we are in darkness and that is the aspect of poorness. In order to get rich with light, we pray like poor asking to receive from the treasure of free gifts because what we have is always temporary.
