Zohar Vayikra
#106
Abraham moved to Gerar and asked his wife, Sarah. She was stunning, and he asked her to say that she is his sister. He wanted to protect himself because, at that time, the king could kill him just to take his wife. King Abimelech took Sarah, but her angel protected her. Each time Abimelech wanted to touch her, he got hit by the angel.
His minister came to him in a dream and told him that Sarah is married, and for that reason, he couldn’t touch her. Also, the sex organs of Abimelech and all men in Gerar were blocked from use, even for releasing waste. The women were unable to deliver until Sarah was released back to her husband, Abraham. Abimelech was innocent, but he was still afflicted.
Genesis 20:6
“And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore, I did not let you touch her.”
God, which in this case is the Minister of King Abimelech, came to the king in a dream and told him that he was prevented from sinning by the higher level of the Holy One Blessed be He.
‘For I also withheld you from sinning against Me.’ The minister tells Abimelech that he also joined the Holy One Blessed be He and withheld him from sinning with Sarah.
The word ‘from sinning’ is spelled ‘מֵחֲטוֹ’, missing the letter א at the end of the word. The Zohar explains that the sin to the Holy One Blessed be He, not to the Minister of Abimelech.
#107
The minister of Abimelech prevented him from sinning because he may lose his position as a minister if he let serious sins go without correction.
Isaiah 50:1
“Thus says YHVH: “Where is the certificate of your mother’s divorce, Whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? For your iniquities, you have sold yourselves, And for your transgressions, your mother has been put away.”
Our ‘mother’, the Shechina, was sent to exile because of our sins. The sins in the world below create flaws in the spiritual world and affect the spiritual connection to the governing levels above. It causes us to lose the protection we need.
The sins of the other nations affect the connection to their minister and the protection he provides.
#108
To restore the connection to the upper levels, we bring offerings and sacrifices to the priest to mend the broken relationship between Zeir Anpin and Malchut.
The word ‘sacrifice’ ‘קרבן’ has the root ‘קרב’ that means ‘closer’. It brings back the upper and lower worlds in unity that erases the sins that caused the rip.
Lesson;
A married woman is ‘locked’ in a holy ‘circuit’ to her husband. Breaking the sacred bond is a severe sin and carries great punishment and correction. Abimelech knew the spiritual law and did his best to correct his attempt to sin. He called Abraham to make a correction
Genesis 20:9
“And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.”
Genesis 20:14 “Then Abimelech took sheep, oxen, and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and he restored Sarah, his wife to him.”
Then Abraham prayed to God to release Abimelech from the pain inflicted on him and his people. God answered Abraham’s prayer and healed all the people of Gerar.
Exodus 20:13
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
The Tenth commandment is related to the sefirah of Malchut. Similar to the aspect of marriage, we should not ‘interfere’ or take other peoples’ ‘holy connection’. This is related to business and other ‘belongings’. When we try to draw energy that belongs to other people, we block our own flow of light.
