Zohar Beresheet

Genesis 1:6
“וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי רָקִיעַ בְּתוֹךְ הַמָּיִם וִיהִי מַבְדִּיל בֵּין מַיִם לָמָיִם.”
“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”

The first three children of Jacob were Reuven, Shimon, and Levi. If Levi was the third child then why the Torah relates the aspect of separation to him and not in Shimon. The Zohar explains that for Jacob, Levi was the second child. Jacob made a deal with Laban to marry Rachel but Laban gave him Leah instead. When Jacob first unified with his wife, he assumed it was Rachel. Reuben, who was the firstborn from Leah, was spiritually connected to Rachel. Shimon and Levi were the next and Levi were considered the second and Left.

Lesson;
The Levites, Left, were chosen to work with the priests, Right, in the Holy Temple. They make the proper unification of Right and Left and draw peace and Love into the Holy Temple and the world.
