152. בְּאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה שֶׁמַּגִּיעַ הַלַּיְלָה, מִתְעוֹרְרִים כָּל אוֹתָם שֶׁמִּחוּץ לַפָּרֹכֶת, וְאָז הַכֹּל שׁוֹכֵךְ, וּפֶתַח לֹא נִמְצָא, וְהַדִּינִים שֶׁלְּמַטָּה מִתְעוֹרְרִים, כֻּלָּם מִתְמַנִּים כְּאֶחָד אֵלֶּה עַל אֵלֶּה, עַד שֶׁנֶּחֱלָק הַלַּיְלָה. אַחַר שֶׁנֶּחֱלָק הַלַּיְלָה וְכֻלָּם מִתְכַּנְּסִים, מִתְמַנֶּה עֲלֵיהֶם מְמֻנֶּה אֶחָד וּמְכַנֵּס אֶת כָּל הַמַּחֲנוֹת, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (במדבר י) מְאַסֵּף לְכָל הַמַּחֲנוֹת וְגוֹ’, וּשְׁמוֹ אָסָף, כְּנֶגֶד שֶׁלְּמַטָּה, וְתַחַת יָדוֹ כָּל אוֹתָם שָׂרִים מְמֻנִּים וּמְבַשְּׂרִים תְּהִלּוֹת.
153. עַד שֶׁבָּא הַבֹּקֶר. כֵּיוָן שֶׁבָּא הַבֹּקֶר, קָם אוֹתוֹ נַעַ”ר וְיוֹנֵק מִשְּׁדֵי אִמּוֹ לְטַהֵר אוֹתָם, וְנִכְנָס לַשֶּׁמֶשׁ. כְּשֶׁמִּתְעוֹרֵר הַבֹּקֶר, אָז הִיא עֵת רָצוֹן שֶׁמְּדַבֶּרֶת הַגְּבִירָה עִם הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְהַמֶּלֶךְ מוֹשֵׁךְ מִמֶּנּוּ חוּט אֶחָד שֶׁל בְּרָכוֹת וּפוֹרֵס עַל הַגְּבִירָה וְעַל אוֹתָם שֶׁמִּזְדַּוְּגִים עִמָּהּ. מִי הֵם שֶׁמִּזְדַּוְּגִים עִמָּהּ? אוֹתָם שֶׁמִּשְׁתַּדְּלִים בַּתּוֹרָה בַּלַּיְלָה, כְּשֶׁנֶּחֱלָק.

At that time, when the night comes, all those angels who are outside the curtain, “פרוכת” meaning those drawn from the back and external side of Malchut, are aroused. Then everything quiets down, and no opening of the gate is found, and the judgments below, meaning those of Malchut, who is below all the Sefirot, are aroused. All of them, meaning all the judgments, are appointed together, one over the other, until the night is divided. After the night is divided, all the angels drawn from the middle line gather together, and one appointed overseer over them gathers all the camps. As it is written, “Gatherer of all the camps” (Numbers 10:25), and his name is Asaf, corresponding to the Asaf mentioned in Psalms, under whose hand are all the officers and appointed ones who herald praises.
Explanation: Malchut is called Asaf (אסף root of Asaf means ‘gather’) because the illuminations of all the Sefirot gather in her, as she receives from all of them. Since that appointed one is drawn from Malchut, his name is also Asaf.

With the arrival of morning, the ‘youth’ (נער) arises, who is Metatron, nourished from the breasts of his mother, Malchut. His mission is to purify the angels of the night, and he enters to serve. As the morning awakens, it is a time of goodwill, and the Queen converses with the King (Zeir Anpin). The King extends from Himself a thread of blessings, meaning Chassadim, and spreads it over the Queen and over those who join her. Who are those who join her? They are those who engage in Torah study when after midnight.
