Daily Zohar # 4651 – Acharei Mot – Don’t despise the poor man’s wisdom
Daily Zohar 4651

Zohar Acharei Mot

#228
“Yet no one remembered that same poor man.” This means that no person remembered fulfilling the Mitzvot of the Torah and engaging in the study of the Torah like that poor man who connected with everything in order to merit it. And I said,
Ecclesiastes 9:16
“Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless, the poor man’s Wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard.”
‘Wisdom is better than strength,’ meaning that in the world to Come, permission is not given to enter except for the truly righteous, those who engage in the Torah day and night and crown themselves with the commandments of the Torah in this world in order to bring them with them to the World to Come.
Notes:
The description of “poor” emphasizes humility and spiritual devotion rather than material poverty. His connection to the Torah and its commandments is total, allowing him to attain merits in this world and the next.
The verse, “Wisdom is better than strength,” underscores that Wisdom (Chokmah) and adherence to the Torah are more valuable than physical strength or worldly power.
#229
“And the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heard” because people do not want to look at him, nor do they want to connect with him or listen to his words, for we have learned that whoever listens to words of Torah is fortunate in this world and is considered as if he received the Torah from Mount Sinai. One should listen to words of the Torah from anyone. Whoever inclines their ear to it gives honor to the Holy King and gives honor to the Torah. Of such a person, it is written, “הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה נִהְיֵיתָ לְעָם לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ” “This day you have become a people unto YHVH your God.” (Deuteronomy 27:9)
Notes:
The “poor man’s wisdom” refers to the deep understanding and insights of a humble person who others may not value due to his social status. Despite his Wisdom, people often dismiss his words, choosing not to listen or engage with him.
There are rewards for those who listen to the words of the Torah, no matter who speaks them. By doing so, one honors both the Torah and the Hashem, acknowledging that the value of Torah wisdom is independent of the speaker’s worldly status. This act is likened to the experience of receiving the Torah at Sinai, symbolizing a renewal of the covenant with Hashem, and it elevates the listener to a spiritual standing described as becoming “a people unto YHVH your God.”
