Rabbi Yitzhak said: The practice of Egypt involved serving a maidservant, meaning they served the kippah called a maidservant, as we have explained. The practice of Canaan involved serving that place called “שְׁבִי אֲשֶׁר בְּבֵית הַבּוֹר” “the captive who is in the house of the pit. (Exodus 12:29)” Therefore, it is written, “אָרוּר כְּנָעַן עֶבֶד עֲבָדִים יִהְיֶה לְאֶחָיו” “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brothers” (Genesis 9:25). Because of this, they all corrupted sacred matters and engaged in idolatry in everything. Therefore, it is written, “כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר יְשַׁבְתֶּם בָּהּ לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ” “Like the deeds of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do” (Leviticus 18:3). Rabbi Yehuda said they performed evil laws to gain control over the land, which is Malchut. As it is written, “וְלֹא תְטַמֵּא אֶת אַדְמָתְךָ” “Do not defile the land,” (Deuteronomy 21:23) and it is further written, “And the land became defiled.”
Notes:
Malchut represents this world, which can become spiritually defiled through improper actions and intentions. This reflects the deeper Kabbalistic idea that human behavior impacts both the physical and spiritual realms.
The Torah warns against following the practices of Egypt and Canaan and urges Israel to maintain spiritual purity. It urges Israel to avoid the corruption of sacred connections and to protect the Light within the level of Malchut.

Rabbi Chiya opened: “לֶאֱחֹז בְּכַנְפוֹת הָאָרֶץ וְיִנָּעֲרוּ רְשָׁעִים מִמֶּנָּה.” “To take hold of the corners of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it” (Job 38:13). We have learned that in the future, the Holy One, blessed be He, will purify His land, which is Malchut, from all the impurities of the nations, idol worshippers, who have defiled it. This is likened to someone who holds their garment and shakes off the dirt from it—so too will He shake off the wicked who were buried in the Holy Land. Thus, He will shake the earth to cast them out to purify the Holy Land, which is Malchut, from the influence of the Sitra Achra. This implies that Malchut, the land, was sustaining the ministers of the other nations and received defilement from them for guiding them. But Hashem will purify her and cast the ministers out in the future.
Notes:
This Zohar reveals a future time when Malchut, representing the Shechina, will be cleansed from the impurities caused by external forces, especially the negative influence of the other nations that defiled it through idolatry. The metaphor of shaking a garment to remove dirt symbolizes how the Shechinah will be purified from the wickedness and impurities of the past. In this cleansing process, the Holy Land will no longer provide sustenance to foreign, impure forces, and the Sitra Achra will be cast out, restoring holiness and purity to the land and its spiritual state.
