293. לָמַדְנוּ, כְּשֶׁעָלָה רַב הַמְנוּנָא סָבָא לְשָׁם, הָיוּ עִמּוֹ שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר בְּנֵי הַיְשִׁיבָה שֶׁלּוֹ. אָמַר לָהֶם, אִם אֲנִי הוֹלֵךְ לַדֶּרֶךְ הַזּוֹ, לֹא עַל שֶׁלִּי אֲנִי עוֹשֶׂה, אֶלָּא כְּדֵי לְהָשִׁיב הַפִּקָּדוֹן לִבְעָלָיו. שָׁנִינוּ, כָּל אוֹתָם שֶׁלֹּא זָכוּ לָזֶה בְחַיֵּיהֶם, הֵם מְשִׁיבִים אֶת פִּקְדוֹן רִבּוֹנָם לְאַחֵר.
294. אָמַר רַבִּי יִצְחָק, מִשּׁוּם כָּךְ, כָּל מִי שֶׁמַּעֲבִיר מֵאוֹתָם מִינִים רָעִים אוֹ רָשׁוּת אַחֶרֶת לָאָרֶץ, הָאָרֶץ נִטְמֵאת. אוֹי לְאוֹתוֹ הָאִישׁ! אוֹי לְנַפְשׁוֹ! שֶׁהֲרֵי הָאָרֶץ הַקְּדוֹשָׁה לֹא תְקַבֵּל אוֹתוֹ אַחַר כָּךְ, עָלָיו כָּתוּב (תהלים קד) יִתַּמּוּ חַטָּאִים מִן הָאָרֶץ – בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וּבָעוֹלָם הַבָּא. וּרְשָׁעִים עוֹד אֵינָם – בִּתְחִיַּת הַמֵּתִים. אָז – בָּרְכִי נַפְשִׁי אֶת ה’ הַלְלוּיָהּ.
295. אֶת מִשְׁפָּטַי תַּעֲשׂוּ וְאֶת חֻקֹּתַי תִּשְׁמְרוּ לָלֶכֶת בָּהֶם וְגוֹ’. רַבִּי אַבָּא אָמַר, אַשְׁרֵי חֶלְקָם שֶׁל יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא הִתְרַצָּה בָהֶם מִכָּל הָעַמִּים עוֹבְדֵי עֲבוֹדָה זָרָה, וּבִשְׁבִיל אַהֲבָתוֹ עֲלֵיהֶם נָתַן לָהֶם הַנְהָגוֹת אֱמֶת, נָטַע בָּהֶם אֶת עֵץ הַחַיִּים וְהִשְׁרָה שְׁכִינָתוֹ בֵינֵיהֶם. מָה הַטַּעַם? מִשּׁוּם שֶׁיִּשְׂרָאֵל רְשׁוּמִים בְּרֹשֶׁם קָדוֹשׁ בִּבְשָׂרָם, וְנוֹדָעִים שֶׁהֵם שֶׁלּוֹ, [נוֹדָעִים] מִבְּנֵי הֵיכָלוֹ.

We have learned that when Rav Hamnuna Saba ascended to the Holy Land, twelve of his disciples were with him. He told them, “If I am going on this journey, it is not for myself that I am doing it, but to return the entrusted deposit to its Owner.” We have learned that all those who did not merit to go to the Holy Land in their lifetime return their Master’s deposit, meaning the soul that was given to them returned to another, the Sitra Achra.

Rabbi Yitzchak said: “For this reason, anyone who brings in from those evil species or from the other side into the Holy Land defiles the land. Woe to that person and to his soul, for the Holy Land will no longer accept him afterward. Regarding him, it is written: “יִתַּמּוּ חַטָּאִים מִן הָאָרֶץ וּרְשָׁעִים עוֹד אֵינָם בָּרֲכִי נַפְשִׁי אֶת יְהוָה הַלְלוּ יָהּ.” ‘Let sins cease from the earth’ (Psalms 104:35), in this world and the world to come, ‘and the wicked will be no more.’ At the time of the resurrection of the dead, then, ‘Bless YHVH, O my soul. Hallelujah!’

The verse from Psalms, “Let sins cease from the earth, and the wicked will be no more,” is interpreted to refer to both this world and the world to come. In this context, it signals the ultimate purification of the world, when sins and impurity are eradicated, and only those aligned with holiness remain. The phrase “the wicked will be no more” underscores the idea that at the time of the resurrection of the dead, only the righteous will be restored, while those who have defiled themselves and the land will not participate in this future redemption.
The concluding verse, “Bless YHVH, O my soul. Hallelujah!” is a triumphant expression that, at the time of the resurrection, the soul will be able to fully praise Hashem, having been purified and brought into complete alignment with the will of the Creator.
In summary, Rabbi Yitzchak teaches that the Holy Land is unique in spiritual purity, and anyone who brings impurity into it not only harms themselves but also risks being excluded from the ultimate spiritual redemption. The text emphasizes the connection between purity, the land, and one’s future spiritual destiny, especially at the time of resurrection.

“You shall observe My ordinances, etc.” (Leviticus 18:4). Rabbi Abba said: “Blessed is the portion of Israel, for the Holy One, Blessed be He, chose them from among all the nations, and out of His love for them, He gave them laws of truth. He planted within them the Tree of Life, which is Zeir Anpin, and He caused His Shechinah to dwell among them. What is the reason for this? It is because Israel is marked with a holy sign in their flesh, and they are recognized as His from among the children of His palace.

Rabbi Abba’s words in this passage highlight the unique relationship between Hashem and the people of Israel. According to Kabbalistic thought, Israel holds a special status among the nations, chosen by Hashem not only for their actions but also because of a deeper spiritual bond. This bond is expressed in several ways:
The “laws of truth” “תורת אמת” refer to the Torah and its commandments, given specifically to Israel as a reflection of Hashem’s deep love for them. These laws serve as a path to align with the truth, representing a higher moral and spiritual order. The last letters of the first three words of the Torah spell “אמת” or “truth.”
The “holy sign ברית” refers to circumcision (Brit Milah), a physical and spiritual covenant between Hashem and Israel. It is a mark that distinguishes them and signifies their dedication to serving Hashem. The mention of being “recognized as His” emphasizes that this covenant creates a visible and lasting connection between Israel and Hashem.
The phrase “from among the children of His palace” evokes the idea that Israel is part of Hashem’s inner circle, the “palace” being a metaphor for the spiritual realms. This connection signifies that Israel, through their covenant and observance, is spiritually bound to Hashem and can reach a higher-level connection (Zeir Anpin) that is not possible for other nations.
