Daily Zohar # 4789 – Mishpatim – Her first husband, may not retake her to be his wife
Daily Zohar 4789

From where do we learn this? From the Second Temple, which was called “Acharon” (the last one), as it is written: “גָּדוֹל יִהְיֶה כְּבוֹד הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה הָאַחֲרוֹן מִן הָרִאשׁוֹן” “The glory of this last house shall be greater than the first” (Haggai 2:9). For from the first one onward, it is always called Acharon, so that no opening is left for the possibility that this structure will fall and need to be rebuilt from the beginning.
#170
Likewise, the reincarnated soul is called Acharon (the last one), just as the Second Temple was called Acharon. And for this reason, it is written: “לֹא יוּכַל בַּעְלָהּ הָרִאשׁוֹן אֲשֶׁר שִׁלְּחָהּ לָשׁוּב לְקַחְתָּהּ” “Her first husband, who sent her away, may not retake her to be his wife” (Deuteronomy 24:4). He asks: Why does the verse say ‘he may not’ (לא יוכל)? It should have simply said, ‘he shall not take her’ (לא יקחנה).
He answers: Because once this woman has attached herself to another (Acher) and descended to be subjugated to a lower level—the level of the Sitra Achra (the Other Side)—the Holy One, Blessed be He, does not desire that the first one (her original husband) should lower himself from his spiritual level to give forth fruit (child) and attach himself to a level that is no longer his.
#171
Come and see: If that woman did not remarry, then even if she committed adultery with all the men in the world if her husband desires, he may still return to her. But if she became attached through marriage to another, she could never return to the previous level she had at the beginning. And for this reason, it is written “he may not” (לא יוכל)—indeed, he may never return to that original level ever again.
Notes:
There are levels of spiritual descent that can be repaired and others that cannot. If a soul has not fully attached itself to impurity, return is possible. But once it has bonded fully with a lower state, it can never return to its original purity—its spiritual reality has permanently shifted.
