Daily Zohar # 4831 – Acharei Mot – Circumcise yourselves to Hashem

#304
And sealed pathways—these are the 32 paths of wisdom; And deep rivers—these are the sefirot of Binah; And the ten utterances—these are the ten sefirot of Da’at, which unites Chokhmah, Binah, which are the secret of Chokmah, Binah, and Da’at of Zeir Anpin. All of them go forth and extend into the worlds from that lower “thorn” beneath the Alef, For the lower Yud of the letter Alef represents Zeir Anpin and Nukva, whose lights are drawn through the lower thorn of the Yud. And therefore, it is a general rule: All of them are included in the Alef. From here on, the lights within the Alef expand into the letter Bet, etc. And there is no measure to the wisdom that is engraved here.

And because of this, the Torah, which is the aspect of Zeir Anpin, is the sustaining force of all and the faith of all to properly bind the bond of faith—which is Malchut—with it. And one who is circumcised is bound to that bond of faith. But one who is not circumcised, and is not bound to it, about him it is written: “וְכָל זָר לֹא יֹאכַל קֹדֶשׁ” “Any outsider shall not eat of the holy.” And “וְכל עָרֵל לֹא יֹאכַל בּוֹ” “no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.” (Exodus 12:43, 48) The spirit of impurity from his side is aroused, and it seeks to intermix with holiness. Blessed is the Merciful One, who has separated Israel, His children, marked with the holy imprint, from them and from their defilement. Upon them it is written: “וְאָנֹכִי נְטַעְתִּיךְ שׂוֹרֵק כֻּלֹּה זֶרַע אֱמֶת” “And I have planted you as a noble vine, entirely a seed of truth.” (Jeremiah 2:21) And because of this it is written: “תִּתֵּן אֱמֶת לְיַעֲקֹב” “You will give truth to Jacob”—not to another; a Torah of truth to a seed of truth. Then Rabbi Elazar came and kissed him on his hands.
Notes:
The Torah is the force that connects the worlds and upholds faith, and circumcision (Brit) is the spiritual connection to this truth. Those circumcised carry the holy imprint and are part of Hashem’s seed of truth. Therefore, they are worthy of the Torah of truth, which cannot be given to those outside the covenant.
This teaching reinforces the intimate bond between the Jewish people, the Brit, the Torah, and Divine truth. Through the Brit, we are bound to Hashem’s Name, His Torah, and His faithfulness across generations.
Among the nations, there are individuals whose hearts are drawn to the light of the Torah and who feel a deep inner connection to Hashem and His wisdom. Such people are described, in the language of the prophets and Kabbalah, as having “circumcised hearts.” This term refers to an inner refinement, a spiritual awakening in which the barriers of ego, impurity, and spiritual blockage are removed, allowing the divine truth to be received and embraced.
The prophet Jeremiah speaks of this concept, saying:
Circumcise yourselves to Hashem, and remove the foreskins of your heart”
—(Jeremiah 4:4) This verse teaches that true closeness to Hashem begins with the heart—through humility, sincerity, and a deep desire for truth.
For those non-Jews who wish to fully embrace the covenant of Israel and undergo conversion, the Torah path invites them not only to circumcise their hearts (the inner dimension) but also to bring that spiritual yearning into physical expression through Brit Milah (circumcision). This step represents the imprinting of the spiritual bond upon the physical body, affirming their entry into the eternal covenant that began with Avraham Avinu. As Kabbalah teaches, the body and soul are intertwined, and the external sign of the Brit reflects the inner transformation already awakened within the heart.
In this way, the journey from heartfelt connection to full conversion is one of the spiritual and physical unification, culminating in becoming part of the people of Israel and sharing in the collective mission to reveal the Divine Presence in the world.
