#365
Sometimes, Naamah (a demonic female spirit) goes out into the world to warm herself through interaction with men. A man may then find himself in a state of lust, longing for her, and he awakens from his sleep and unites with his wife, lying with her. But his desire is still attached to that passion he experienced in the dream. The child that is born from this union comes from the aspect of Naamah, for his conception was rooted in her influence and desire.
And when Lil-th comes out and sees him, she recognizes that he was conceived through the aspect of Naamah, so she attaches herself to him and raises him, just like the other children of Naamah. She remains with him for many days and does not kill him because he comes from her side.
Notes:
This Zohar section teaches that even a brief mental or emotional connection to spiritual impurity during intimate moments can have lasting effects on a child’s soul. If a man unites with his wife under the lingering influence of an unclean dream, the child may become spiritually linked to demonic forces like Naamah and Lil-th. Unlike typical cases where Lil-th harms children, she instead protects and nurtures them because they are “from her side.”
#366
This is the case of a man who, at every renewal of the moon, that is, at each new month (Rosh Chodesh), becomes blemished, and Lil-th never despairs of him—she remains attached to him forever. When the moon is renewed each month, Lil-th goes out and visits all the children she has raised, and she plays with them. And during that time, the man associated with her becomes blemished.
Blessed are the righteous, who sanctify themselves with the sanctity of the King. Of them it is written: “וְהָיָה מִדֵּי חֹדֶשׁ בְּחָדְשׁוֹ וּמִדֵּי שַׁבָּת בְּשַׁבַּתּוֹ” “And it shall be from new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath…” (Isaiah 66:23) —implying that they are constantly connected to the cycles of holiness.
Notes:
The Zohar warns that spiritual blemishes tied to Lil-th’s domain can recur cyclically—especially during spiritually significant times like Rosh Chodesh when renewal and judgment occur. Such people remain vulnerable unless they pursue true repentance and purification.
Today, this emphasizes the importance of being spiritually mindful during key times like Rosh Chodesh and Shabbat. These are opportunities for renewal and cleansing, not just rituals. Even if one had past spiritual failings, sanctifying oneself through teshuvah, Torah learning, and holy intent brings elevation and protection. One should avoid trying to interpret dreams or spiritual signs on their own. Only those with Torah and Kabbalistic knowledge should do so responsibly. Instead, one should focus on spiritual growth and purity through the mitzvot and prayer.
