Daily Zohar # 5103 – Vayakhel – The secret of the Sefer Torah on Shabbat
Daily Zohar 5103

#217
The secret of the Sefer Torah on this day. We have already explained it. We have learned: it is written, “וַיִּקְרְאוּ בְּסֵפֶר תּוֹרַת אֱלֹהִים מְפֹרָשׁ וְשׂוֹם שֶׂכֶל וַיָּבִינוּ בַּמִּקְרָא” “And they read in the book of the Torah of God, clearly explained, giving sense, and they understood the reading” (Nehemiah 8:8). And we have established that the secret of the ta’amei ha-mikra (cantillation marks), the masoret (tradition/notes), and all these precise details and supernal secrets — all were transmitted to Moshe on mount Sinai.
Hw asks: If the Torah was transmitted to Moshe with all these precise details, why is the Sefer Torah — which contains all these holy elements — lacking in all these rectifications and secrets that were transmitted to Moshe in the Torah?
Notes:
A profound question is raised about the Sefer Torah on Shabbat: Nehemiah 8:8 describes the public reading with full clarity, sense, and understanding, implying that Moshe received the Torah at Sinai with all its ta’amim (cantillation), masoret (scribal traditions), and supernal secrets. Yet the physical Sefer Torah scroll appears to lack these explicit markings and details. This sets up the revelation of the deeper kabbalistic secret: the visible Sefer Torah (Written Torah / Tiferet) is the vessel for the concealed, oral, and supernal aspects (Oral Torah / Malchut), which are fully present in its inner essence and revealed through proper intention and reading on Shabbat day.
#218
And he answers: Rather, this secret is that when the holy Throne — which is Malchut — is adorned and included in the Written Torah, which is Tiferet, then all these forms and all these ta’amim (cantillation marks) and masoret (traditions) — all enter concealed and inscribed within the holy Throne from Tiferet. And these forms that the Written Torah — which is Tiferet — inserted into the Oral Torah — which is Malchut — she becomes impregnated by them, like a woman impregnated by a male, and the supernal letters that are in the Written Torah remain alone in their holiness as is fitting, without any form.
And to show in the synagogue — for the Throne, which is Malchut, is blessed and crowned from the secret of the Written Torah, and there in Malchut, he inserted all these forms that are the ta’amim and the tradition as above — and she is sanctified from him. And it is necessary to show the letters alone as is fitting.
Notes:
The physical Sefer Torah scroll displays only the bare letters (the Written Torah / Tiferet) without visible ta’amim or masoret because these supernal forms, transmitted to Moshe at Sinai, are concealed within Malchut (the Throne / Oral Torah). When Malchut ascends and unites with Tiferet on Shabbat day, she receives and “impregnates” with these hidden forms — like a woman conceiving from the male — becoming blessed, crowned, and sanctified by them. The bare letters are shown in the synagogue to emphasize the purity and holiness of the Written Torah in its essential form, while the full secrets (ta’amim, masoret, and higher structures) remain inscribed and active within Malchut, revealed through the inner studies and union.
