Daily Zohar # 5123 – Vayikra – For great above the heavens is Your Chessed
Daily Zohar 5123

#257
Rabbi Yehuda said: When is Malchut called teshuvah? It is when the mother — which is Malchut — becomes covered, that is, when the point of the attribute of judgment that is called “nakedness” (ערוה) returns and becomes covered, and she stands in joy over the sons, bestowing upon them all goodness. As it is written: “אֵם הַבָּנִים שִׂמְחָה” “A joyful mother of children” (Psalms 113:9). And she returns to her existence as she was before they damaged her, and that which was previously closed and concealed — that is, the point of the attribute of judgment — returns to its place, for it has returned to its covered place, as explained shortly above. And all the levels return one after the other, each lower one ascending to the one above it, and they are all blessed, each one. And then it is called teshuvah — teshuvah in general, to include everything, for all the levels have returned and been rectified.
#258
Rabbi Yitzchak said: When the world — which is Malchut — is rectified, the whole is rectified together, all at once. For it is written: “כִּי גָדוֹל מֵעַל שָׁמַיִם חַסְדֶּךָ” “For great above the heavens is Your Chessed” (Psalms 108:5). “Above the heavens” — that is, Malchut ascends above the place that is called “שָׁמַיִם” “heavens,” and what is that? It is Ima, that is, Binah. For Zeir Anpin is called “heavens,” and above Zeir Anpin is Binah. And once Malchut ascends there, she is rectified all at once like Ima (Mother, Binah). And this is why she is called teshuvah, for Malchut returns to Binah.
#259
Rabbi Yehuda said: It is written precisely ‘מֵעַל שָׁמַיִם above the heavens.” If it had been written “עַל שָׁמַיִם” “upon the heavens,” it would mean that place which stands upon the heavens, which is Binah, and no more. Since it says “מֵעַל שָׁמַיִם” “above the heavens,” it means above that place which stands upon the heavens, even higher, which is Atika Kadisha, as we have explained before.
Notes:
The Zohar explains when Malchut is truly called “teshuvah.” It occurs when the exposed point of judgment (ערוה, nakedness) in Malchut is covered again, allowing her to stand in perfect joy as “a joyful mother of children,” bestowing goodness upon her sons (Israel). All the sefirot levels then return and ascend in proper order, each lower one rising to the one above, resulting in complete rectification.
When Malchut ascends “above the heavens” (Zeir Anpin), she reaches Binah (Ima). She has rectified all at once, like her, which is the inner meaning of complete teshuvah — Malchut returning to Binah. The precise wording “מֵעַל שָׁמַיִם” hints even higher, to Atika Kadisha (Keter), showing the full scope of this cosmic repair. This process of covering, ascending, and reuniting is the essence of Yom HaKippurim and perfect repentance.
