Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#308
Thus said the Holy One, blessed be He — who is the secret of the middle line — to Israel: My children, do not fear the judgments (dinim) of the left line, for I stand at the doorway to prevent the judgments from going out. But strengthen yourselves on this day and give Me strength — and with what? With the shofar. For through the sound of the shofar, the middle line is aroused to the Masach de-Chirik (Curtain of Chirik, as explained in previous sections), and this is its entire power: to diminish the left line and sweeten it in the right. And without this, there is no power that can unite the left with the right, as explained above.
That if a proper sound of the shofar is found and they direct intention (Kavanaot) in it below, that sound ascends and arouses the Masach de-Chirik in the middle line, and unites the right and the left, through which the patriarchs are crowned. For through the inclusion of right and left they acquire the mochin of the upper three (ג”ר). Through this, Isaac and Abraham are crowned. And since Jacob caused all this, he too is crowned, for whatever mochin a lower one causes for an upper one, the lower one also merits them. And it turns out that the patriarchs Abraham and Isaac stand in the dwelling of Jacob, because he is the one who effects all this union. And therefore, one must be careful with the shofar, know the sound, and direct the proper intention (Kavanot) in it.
#309
And there is no sound of the shofar that does not ascend to one firmament, and all the host in that firmament gives place to that sound. And what do they say? “And YHVH utters His voice before His army” etc. (Joel 2:11). And that sound stands in that firmament until another sound comes, and they join together and ascend as one to another firmament.
And therefore we have learned that there is a sound that raises up a sound. And what is it? It is the shofar sound of the blowing of Israel below.
Notes:
The Zohar reveals the profound power of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah. The Holy One (on the middle line) reassures Israel not to fear the harsh judgments of the left side, for He stands ready to restrain them. The shofar sound arouses the Masach de-Chirik in the middle line (Jacob/Tiferet), which diminishes the left (Isaac/Gevurah) and unites it with the right (Abraham/Chessed).
This union grants the patriarchs the supernal mochin (ג”ר, Gimel Rishonot), crowning all three. Each shofar blast ascends through the firmaments, causing the heavenly hosts to make way and join in unified ascent. The lower sound from Israel below has the power to raise and elevate the supernal sounds, demonstrating how human action below directly influences and rectifies the upper worlds. The proper intention in blowing the shofar is therefore of critical importance on this holy day.
