Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#310
And once all these sounds from below join together and ascend to the supernal firmament where the Holy King — who is the middle line — dwells, they are all crowned before the King. And then the thrones of judgment (דין, din) are cast down, and the other throne of Jacob— which is the middle line — is established and rectified.
#311
Therefore, I found in the book of Rav Hamnuna Saba, concerning these prayers of Rosh Hashanah, that he would say: The prayer and the sound of the shofar that the tzaddik brings forth with that shofar — which issues from his ruach and nefesh — that sound ascends above. And on that day, the accusers stand and are present above, but when that sound of the shofar ascends, they are all pushed aside before it and cannot endure.
Fortunate is the portion of the tzaddikim who know how to direct their will before their Master, and who know how to rectify the world on that day with the sound of the shofar. And therefore it is written: “אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם יוֹדְעֵי תְרוּעָה” “Fortunate is the people that knows the teruah” (Psalms 89:16) — “knows” and not “blows.”
Notes:
The Zohar emphasizes the immense power of the shofar blasts and prayers on Rosh Hashanah when performed with proper intention by a tzaddik. The sound that emerges from his ruach and nefesh ascends through the firmaments, crowns itself before the Holy King (the middle line), and causes the thrones of harsh judgment to be cast down while establishing the throne of Jacob (the balanced middle line).
All supernal accusers are pushed aside and cannot stand before this holy sound. This is why the verse says “the people that knows the teruah” — the inner knowledge and intention in the blowing is more important than the mere physical act. The tzaddikim who know how to direct their will and rectify the world through the shofar on this day bring about cosmic rectification, transforming judgment into mercy.
