There is a little story in the Zohar about two of the students of Rabbi Shimon that visited a house and a child with a high soul didn’t want to greet them because he felt that they didn’t do their morning prayers. The two great rabbis said that the child was correct. They explained that they skipped the morning connection because they were busy helping someone.
This story teaches us that the first priority is to help people. Prayers are important for us to draw the Light that gives us the ability to help others. Prayers with the right consciousness draw Light to the world, making positive actions helps us keep the flow of Light. This is why giving tithing is very important.
The sages teach us that a reward for a good deed (Mitzvah, precept) is another good deed. When we do good we earn the opportunity to channel more of the same.
When we pray, we should ask God to enable us to be channels of Light in everything we do. When we become tools of God we benefit from higher levels of Light. The sages give us an example of a slave of the king. He carries his duties and at the same time, he lives in a palace of the King.
At the Final Redemption, the Light will spread everywhere and there will be no more work (Tikkun process) left to do. Those who are already in the palace will stay in it but then they will be as children of the King.
