Zohar Miketz

Genesis 42:1
“Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why are you staring at one another?”

#104
The Zohar brings another explanation and tells us that Jacob saw with his eyes people of his land bringing grain from Egypt.
The Holy One Blessed be He brought famine to the world to make Jacob go to Egypt with his sons.

#105
When Isaac passed away, Esau and Jacob, his sons came to divide the inheritance. Esau didn’t want to be part of the exile process and he let go of his share, leaving Jacob the process of going through the pain of exile to receive everything later.
Jacob saw the future suffering of his children in Egypt yet he didn’t hesitate to send them down to follow the process Hashem planned for them.
Genesis 42:2
“And he said, “Indeed I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down (רְדוּ) to that place and buy for us there, that we may live and not die.”
Jacob encouraged them to go down without fear. The word ‘go down’ ‘רְדוּ’ has the numerical value of 210 that tells the number of years, Israel was in Egypt.

#106
Genesis 42:6
“Now Joseph was governor over the land; and it was he who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the earth.”

Psalms 27:6
“And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to YHVH
Rabbi Yessa quotes the above verses and says that when the Holy One Blessed be He is pleased with a person he lifts him up above all people, makes him a leader, and all his enemies surrender under him.

Lesson;
Joseph is Yessod and the channel for spiritual and material nourishments in the ‘land’ which is Malchut.
Reading the story of Joseph from the Zohar is a connection to Yessod and sustenance. To activate the connection we follow the verse from Psalms 27:6
“I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle” – Give Tzedakah.
“I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to YHVH” – Study and prayers.
