Zohar Vaera

#124
One day Rabbi Chiya was sitting by the door of Usha’s gate. He saw Rabbi Elazar and a bird flying next to him. He said to Rabbi Elazar; it seems that even when you walk on the road, all desire to follow you. Rabbi Elazar turned his head and saw the bird. He said it is certain that the bird is on a mission because the Holy One, Blessed be He, does his missions through everything. He has many messengers to carry on missions. He doesn’t use only living creatures but even things that have no life in them.

#125
Habakkuk 2:11
“כִּי אֶבֶן מִקִּיר תִּזְעָק וְכָפִיס מֵעֵץ יַעֲנֶנָּה.”
“For the stone will cry out from the wall, And the beam from the timbers will answer it.”
He said a person has to be careful so that he does not sin before the Holy One, Blessed be He, and if you say, who bears witness to him. The stones of his house and the beams of his house bear witness to him as sometimes the Holy One, Blessed be He, uses them to carry his mission.
Aaron’s rod, which was dry wood, was used by the Holy One, Blessed be He, to perform the first two missions of miracles. He made the wooden rod into a living creature, “Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent” (Exodus 7:10). The rod swallowed the serpents of the Egyptians, “Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods” (Exodus 7:12).

Lesson;
Every atom in our universe represents a matter unit under Hashem’s control. Even the atoms in a wooden rod have an inner life force that keeps them connected to each other. We can change its ‘physical’ structure by using an external force to reshape or destroy it (transforming its atoms to energy) by burning it. Only Hashem can command the atoms to take a new shape and give them life.
Great Tzadikim (תנאים, Tanaim) could bring a dead person back to life because they were connected with all their essence to the Torah. Since the Torah has the life force of the whole universe, they could channel that force into the dead and revive it.
