Hebrew translation:

229. כָּאן מַשְׂכִּיל, מְקוֹמוֹ יָדוּעַ. מַהוּ מַשְׂכִּיל? מַיִם שֶׁמַּחְכִּימִים אֶת אוֹתָם שֶׁשּׁוֹתִים אוֹתָם, אוֹתוֹ הַמָּקוֹם (שֶׁמִּשְׁתַּדְּלִים בְּאוֹתוֹ מָקוֹם) שֶׁנִּקְרָא מַשְׂכִּיל, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (משלי יז) מַשְׂכִּיל עַל דָּבָר יִמְצָא טוֹב. וּמִשּׁוּם שֶׁנִּקְרָא כָּךְ, תְּלוּיָה בּוֹ סְלִיחָה, חֵרוּת הַחֵרֻיּוֹת. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב אַשְׁרֵי נְשׂוּי פֶּשַׁע כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה.
230. מַה זֶּה כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה? הֲרֵי פֵּרְשׁוּהָ, שֶׁהוּא כִּסּוּי מִבְּנֵי אָדָם אוֹתוֹ חֵטְא שֶׁחָטָא לַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא וְהוֹדָה לִפְנֵי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא. אֲבָל (כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה) בֹּא רְאֵה, כְּשֶׁאָדָם חוֹטֵא, וּמִתְחַיֵּב פַּעַם אַחַת וּפַעֲמַיִם וְשָׁלֹשׁ וְלֹא חוֹזֵר בּוֹ, הֲרֵי חֲטָאָיו הֵם בְּגָלוּי, וּמְפַרְסְמִים אוֹתָם לְמַעְלָה, וּמְפַרְסְמִים אוֹתָם לְמַטָּה. וְהַכָּרוֹזִים הוֹלְכִים לְפָנָיו וּמַכְרִיזִים: הִסְתַּלְּקוּ מִסָּבִיב לִפְלוֹנִי, נָזוּף הוּא מֵאֲדוֹנוֹ, נָזוּף הוּא לְמַעְלָה, נָזוּף הוּא לְמַטָּה, אוֹי לוֹ שֶׁפָּגַם אֶת דְּיוֹקַן רִבּוֹנוֹ! אוֹי לוֹ שֶׁאֵינוֹ חוֹשֵׁשׁ עַל כְּבוֹד רִבּוֹנוֹ! הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא מְגַלֶּה חֶטְאוֹ לְמַעְלָה. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב, (איוב כ) יְגַלּוּ שָׁמַיִם עֲוֹנוֹ וְאֶרֶץ מִתְקוֹמָמָה לוֹ. וּכְשֶׁאָדָם הוֹלֵךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ רִבּוֹנוֹ וּמִשְׁתַּדֵּל בַּעֲבוֹדָתוֹ, וְהִזְדַּמֵּן לוֹ חֵטְא אֶחָד – הַכֹּל מְכַסִּים עָלָיו, עֶלְיוֹנִים וְתַחְתּוֹנִים, זֶה נִקְרָא כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה.

The place of משכיל Maskil is known, which is the Yessod of Binah. He asks, what is called ‘Maskil’ (Educated), and explains that it is the place where its water brings wisdom, Chokmah to those who drink from it. As it is written;
Proverbs 16:20
“מַשְׂכִּיל עַל דָּבָר יִמְצָא טוֹב וּבוֹטֵחַ בַּיהוָה אַשְׁרָיו.”
“He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in YHVH, happy is he.”
The ‘educated’ brings the Light of Chokmah dressed in Chassadim to find good.
And because it is called ‘Maskil,’ forgiveness depends on it, and freedom of all freedoms. Because from the Chokmah of Binah come out forgiveness and freedom. It is written, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered”

He asks what it means to cover sin. And he replies, it was explained that sin is covered when a person confesses to the Holy One, Blessed be He. But if a person sins again and again and does not repent, then his sins are in the open. The sins are known above and exposed below. There are ‘announcers’ that walk in front of him and announce, go away from around this person. He is rebuked by his Master above and rebuked below. Woe to him who marred the image of his Master, woe to him who does not fear the honor of his Master. The Holy One, Blessed be He, reveals his iniquities above, as it is written;
Job 20:27
“יְגַלּוּ שָׁמַיִם עֲו‍ֹנוֹ וְאֶרֶץ מִתְקוֹמָמָה לוֹ.”
“The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him.”

When a person walks in the way of his Lord and engages in his work, and he happened to make one sin, the upper and the lowers cover for him, this is what is called “כְּסוּי חֲטָאָה” “covering a sin”.
