#243
Rabbi Yehuda began and said: “שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת מִמַּעֲמַקִּים קְרָאתִיךָ ה'” “A song of ascents. Out of the depths, I call to You, O Lord” (Psalms 130:1). We have learned, when the Holy One, Blessed Be He, created the world and wanted to create humanity, He consulted with the Torah. The Torah said before Him, “You want to create this person? He is destined to sin before You, destined to anger You. If You treat him according to his actions, the world will not be able to stand before You, much less this person.” The Holy One, Blessed Be He, said to the Torah, “Is it for nothing that I am called  “אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן אֶרֶךְ אַפַּיִם?” ‘God, Merciful and Gracious, Slow to Anger’?

Notes:
The verse “Out of the depths, I call to You, YHVH” connects this teaching, illustrating that even from the depths of human failings, individuals can call upon Hashem’s mercy, knowing that He is slow to anger and compassionate. This relationship between Hashem’s justice (cause and effect) and mercy sustains the world and humanity despite their flaws.

#244
Before the Holy One, Blessed Be He, created the world, He created “תְשׁוּבָה” (Teshuvah), repentance. G-d said to repentance, which represents Binah, also called Teshuvah, “I want to create man in the world, on the condition that if they return to you from their sins, you will be ready to forgive their transgressions and atone for them.” At every moment, repentance is readily available for all human beings. When people repent of their sins, Teshuva, which is Binah, returns to the Holy One, Blessed Be He, meaning that it channels the Mochin to Zeir Anpin and atones for everything. All judgments (dinim) are subdued and sweetened, and people are purified from transgressions.

Notes:
The act of Teshuva is not merely about removing sin; it is a transformative process. It sweetens the harsh judgments (dinim) that may have been invoked due to transgression. Through Teshuva, a person not only rectifies their connection with Hashem but also cleanses themselves, allowing them to be renewed in a state of spiritual purity. No matter how far and ‘deep’ a person strays, the path to return to Hashem (Teshuva) is always accessible.

#245
The question is asked: When is a person purified from their sin? The answer is given: When they truly enter into Teshuva as is proper. Rabbi Yitzchak said: It is when they return before the supreme King and pray from the depth of their heart, as it is written, “Out of the depths…” (Psalms 130:1). This verse, with its reference to ‘depths ‘—both emotional and spiritual—is key to this purification.
