Zohar Shemot
Continued from previous DZ
#143
And since the lower realms did not shine light due to the rule of the kingdom of Babylon, the light of Binah was removed. That upper spring, which flowed into Binah, the secret of the י Y י of YHVH, which is Chokmah, ascended higher and higher into Ein Sof. Thus, those seventy years of Binah were not illuminating because the light of the Y י’ ceased to shine upon the H ה.’ This was indeed the seventy-year exile of Binah, which is the secret of the First Temple.
#144
When the rule of Babylon was removed, and the lower H ה’ of YHVH began to shine, all of Israel did not return to purity and perfection as they had before. Instead, they returned from the Babylonian exile to the Land of Israel little by little. Since there was no completeness, the upper Y י’ of YHVH did not descend to illuminate as it had in the past. Instead, it illuminated sparingly and without order because Israel was not as pure as before. Therefore, the upper spring, which is the Y י’ of YHVH, did not flow or illuminate fully. Instead, it returned to shine only sparingly under the constraints of the name.
Notes:
The restoration of the illumination from Binah after the Babylonian exile was incomplete due to Israel’s spiritual imperfections. The upper Y י’ of YHVH illuminated sparingly, reflecting the constrained and gradual return of Hashem’s protection.

#145
Therefore, many wars were waged against Israel until “הַחֹשֶׁךְ יְכַסֶּה אֶרֶץ” “darkness covers the earth” (Isaiah 60:2) and the lower H ה’, which is the Nukva, was darkened and fell to the earth. The upper spring, which is the Y י’ of YHVH, withdrew again as before because the kingdom of Edom strengthened, and Israel returned to their improper ways.
Notes:
Israel’s spiritual decline and the strengthening of opposing forces led to the dimming of Hashem’s presence and the withdrawal of higher illumination, symbolizing a return to exile and hardship.
