191. כֻּלָּם פּוֹתְחִים: וַי, שֶׁהֲרֵי דִּין חָדָשׁ מִתְעוֹרֵר כָּעֵת בִּגְלָלוֹ שֶׁל פְּלוֹנִי. כַּמָּה שׁוֹמְרֵי הַחֹק מִזְדַּמְּנִים כְּנֶגְדּוֹ וּמַקְדִּימִים לוֹ: וַי, אוֹי לָרָשָׁע אוֹי לִשְׁכֵנוֹ. וְכֻלָּם פּוֹתְחִים וְאוֹמְרִים: אוֹי לְרָשָׁע רָע כִּי גְמוּל יָדָיו יֵעָשֶׂה לּוֹ. מַה זֶּה [טַעַם] גְּמוּל יָדָיו? אָמַר רַבִּי יִצְחָק, לִכְלֹל [לְהוֹצִיא] מִי שֶׁזּוֹנֶה בְיָדוֹ לְהוֹצִיא וּלְהַשְׁחִית זַרְעוֹ לָרִיק.
192. שֶׁהֲרֵי שָׁנִינוּ, כָּל מִי שֶׁמּוֹצִיא זַרְעוֹ לָרִיק נִקְרָא רָע, וְלֹא רוֹאֶה פְּנֵי שְׁכִינָה, שֶׁכָּתוּב (תהלים ה) כִּי לֹא אֵל חָפֵץ רֶשַׁע אָתָּה לֹא יְגֻרְךָ רָע, וְכָתוּב (בראשית לב) וַיְהִי עֵר בְּכוֹר יְהוּדָה רַע. אַף כָּאן, אוֹי לְרָשָׁע רָע – אוֹי לְאוֹתוֹ רָשָׁע שֶׁהוּא רָע, שֶׁעָשָׂה עַצְמוֹ רָע, כִּי גְמוּל יָדָיו יֵעָשֶׂה לּוֹ – לִכְלֹל מִי שֶׁזּוֹנֶה בְיָדוֹ לְהוֹצִיא וּלְהַשְׁחִית זַרְעוֹ לָרִיק, וְלָזֶה טוֹרְדִים אוֹתוֹ בְּאוֹתוֹ הָעוֹלָם יוֹתֵר מִכֻּלָּם.

And all of them open and say: “אוֹי לְרָשָׁע רָע כִּי גְמוּל יָדָיו יֵעָשֶׂה לּוֹ”, “Woe to the wicked, it is evil, for the reward of his hands will be done to him” (Isaiah 3:11). He asks: What is the reward of his hands?
Rabbi Yitzchak said: It is to include one who fornicates with his hands, to emit and destroy his seed in vain.
Notes:
The wicked’s “reward of his hands” refers to wasting seed, a grave sin causing defilement and woe. This continues the theme of judgment on the wicked, contrasting the righteousness of the righteous.

For we have learned: Everyone who wastes his seed in vain is called evil and does not see the face of the Shekhinah. As it is 
written: “כִּי לֹא אֵל חָפֵץ רֶשַׁע אַתָּה לֹא יְגֻרְךָ רָע”, “For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not sojourn with You” (Psalms 5:5). And similarly: “וַיְהִי עֵר בְּכוֹר יְהוּדָה רַע”, “And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil” (Genesis 38:7). So too here: “אוֹי לְרָשָׁע רָע”, “Woe to the wicked, it is evil” (Isaiah 3:11) refers to one who wastes his seed in vain. Woe to that wicked one, for he is evil who made himself evil. For “גְּמוּל יָדָיו יֵעָשֶׂה לּוֹ”, “the reward of his hands will be done to him” (Isaiah 3:11), whose meaning is: one who fornicates with his hands to emit and destroy his seed in vain. And that one is punished in the world of truth more than for all transgressions.
Notes:
Wasting seed (Hotza’at Zera Levatala) is not merely a physical act but a spiritual disruption. The seed is considered the highest expression of creative light, drawn from the Sefirah of Yessod, the channel where divine energy flows toward Malchut, the vessel of manifestation. When seed is wasted, that creative force—meant to build, bless, and continue life—falls into the realm of klipot, where holy energy is trapped instead of elevated. The Zohar describes this as “giving nourishment to the forces of impurity, because the light of the soul that should ascend is diverted into places where it cannot be uplifted. In this view, the harm is not punishment but consequence: the channel of Yessod becomes weakened, creating spiritual blockage, confusion, and diminished vitality. By guarding this covenant—called “shmirat habrit”—a person protects their inner light, strengthens their spiritual boundaries, and ensures that the flow of blessing and clarity in their life remains open.
