” also a tenth of an ephah (unit of measure z.) of fine flour (סֹלֶת) for a grain offering, mixed with a quarter of a hin of beaten (כָּתִית) oil.”
The Zohar teaches us that the righteous who is the aspect of Yessod, is the one that ‘presses’ the ‘Holy Olives’, which are the Sefirot. They are the ‘limbs’ of the body that is the Tree of Life.
The work of the righteous brings down the oil that is the light of Chokmah and life to the entire body.
The Faithful Shepherd, Moses, praises Rabbi Shimon for his teaching and adds that ‘mixed with beaten oil’ refers to the oral Torah, which is the secrets of the Torah that is ‘mixed’ in the study of the Torah text and the Talmud. The secrets are revealed to those who ‘press’ their life energy in Torah secrets study.
The Zohar reminds us the teaching of the sages that said “שֶׁאֵין הַתּוֹרָה מִתְקַיֶּמֶת אֶלָּא בְּמִי שֶׁמֵּמִית עַצְמוֹ עָלֶיהָ” “The Torah sustains (also becomes revealed) only a person that kill himself on it” (Berachot 63:)

The level of revelation of light is always according to the efforts we put to ‘press’ ourselves and the study to reveal the Light.
The sages also said “בִּזְמַן שֶׁאַתָּה מְכַתֵּת רַגְלֶיךָ מִמְּדִינָה לִמְדִינָה, תִּזְכֶּה לִרְאוֹת פְּנֵי שְׁכִינָה” “When you walk with weary legs from country to country, you will see a face the Shekhina”
‘Country’ is the aspect of area of knowledge taught by a teacher. The Zohar, here, recommends to study from many teachers that will add more to your understanding. As you increase your efforts and knowledge, you come to a point of seeing the inner secrets of Malchut and the Shechina.
One should be careful not to mix teachers from different streams or spiritual paths. It will be a dangerous ‘mix’ of good and bad and creates confusion. It is okay to study Kabbalah from any teacher that follows the teaching of the Holy Ari and Rabbi Ashlag.
Some teachers teach the moral aspects of Kabbalah, some teach the deeper study and gets into the words, the spiritual worlds and the Sefirot. Start from a low level but always seek the deeper study and progress yourself because staying on one spiritual level is type of religiosity, even with Kabbalah. We can not get ‘stuck’ in a routine and some comfort level. We should make continuous efforts and keep ‘pressing’ to produce ‘oil’.
It is not enough to be a good person because ‘good’ person is the basic and expected human behavior. There is no rewards for being good nor ‘punishment’. ‘Good’ is basic and on a low spiritual level. The more we ‘press’ we expand our vessel with greater ability to receive Light and affect the world around us.
