The elder opened and quoted Ecclesiastes 12:7
“וְיָשֹׁב הֶעָפָר עַל-הָאָרֶץ, כְּשֶׁהָיָה; וְהָרוּחַ תָּשׁוּב, אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים אֲשֶׁר נְתָנָהּ”
“then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”
The Zohar explains that this is related to the state after the destruction of the Holy Temple.
‘the dust will return to the earth’ means that the earth went back to the control of the Klipa.
‘the spirit will return to God who gave it’ is the Shechina that returned to God because the Israelites didn’t do repentance, ‘Teshuvah’.
‘‘the spirit’ is also the aspect of the righteous souls in the lower Garden of Eden. On Shabbats, holidays and days of Rosh Chodesh, the souls elevate to the upper Garden of Eden, leaves their lower level garments and stand in front of God that gives them crowns to be with him and enjoy his presence.
