Imagery and visions involve our understanding of the special language used in to deliver the vision. A vision that is revealed in the eyes of the mind is like a light that shines in the pupil of the eye. It is called ‘Torah Light’, which is Zeir Anpin that is called Torah.

The Holy Candle, rabbi Shimon, responds to the Faithful Shepherd saying that the Holy One Blessed be He and the Shechina revealed themselves to him in the Torah as it said (Numbers 12:6) “I YHVH do make Myself known unto him in a vision, I do speak with him in a dream.”
‘In a vision’ is Binah, the supernal Mother. ‘known unto him’ is the connection of Moses to Da’at, יה YH. ‘Knowledge’ that leads the Light to Zeir Anpin, ו V. ‘speak with him in a dream’ is the lower H ה, the Shechina in Malchut.
Moses’s visions were on the highest levels because he was able to connect to all levels of the YHVH name.

The dream that happens with closed eyes is on the level of Malchut and it is called a vision that doesn’t shine light. A prophecy is a vision with open eyes revealing the three colors of the eye that are the aspect of the patriarchs and the Sefirot of Chessed, Gevurah and Tiferet. The two eye lids are Netzach and Hod. When they are open the vision is in a wake state. When the eye lids are closed the vision is in a dream state.
