Zohar Balak

#142 in previous DZ

#143
After Sam-el (Esau, Left) rejected the Torah he pleads God to give it to the children of Jacob. He was thinking that by doing so, they won’t be able to control the world, and would experience limitations and death.
The Holy One Blessed be He asked him to reconsider taking the Torah because he (Esau) is the firstborn and deserve it. Sam-el rejected again stating that he already sold the firstborn rights and the children of Jacob has the right.
God told him that since he doesn’t want any part of the Torah then he should remove himself from it completely. Sam-el accepted this term.

#144 (Aramaic Text in the next DZ)
God asked Sam-el to give him advice about how to follow his suggestion and make the children of Jacob accept the Torah. Sam-el said that God should bribe them by adding light from the heavens and he is ready to give his own light first. Sam-el ‘undressed’ himself from the Light that was on him and gave it to God to for the children of Israel. We read that from Deuteronomy 33:2 when it says, “And dawned on them from Seir” (see also DZ 3088, #138). “From Seir” as explained is the Left, Sam-el.

“He said, “YHVH came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.”

Lesson;
Sam-el is the minister of the other-side and represents endless desire to control. The negative side doesn’t have the light of its own and that is why it attaches itself to people. When they are out of the ways of the Torah, Sam-el introduces the aspect of death that includes all types of failures, termination of life, the cutoff of energy flow, stop growth and more.
Sam-el can’t have a part in the Torah because he gave it up, but If we don’t follow the Torah, he can claim the Light he gave us through God with the Torah. Since his contribution of light was only partial, he cannot take it all and we can always turn to heavens and receive light to restore ‘Life’ after we lose it to the other-side.
