Zohar Vayera

#124
Rabbi Echa went to the village of Tarsha and stayed at an inn. The locals see that he is a great man and come to him asking him if he is not afraid of the plague that brings death to the town. He asked them, What plague? and they told him that for seven days there is death in the town and every day it gets only worse.

#125
He told them, let us go to pray in the synagogue and ask mercy from the Holy One Blessed be He. While they were on their way, people came to tell them that more people died and others are close to death.
Rabbi Echa told them, now is not the time to stand like that because the time is pressing.

#126
Instead, forty people will be separated from you, people who follow the Torah, and will be divided into four groups of ten. And I’m with you. Ten to this corner of the city and ten to another corner of the city, same to the four corners of the city. And then recite with all your hearts the words of the eleven incense, which the Holy One Blessed be He, gave to Moses. Also, add the verses of the sacrifices.

#127
Do so three times, in each corner of the city. Then he said to them, we will go to those who are about to die and recite the same. Other people from among you will go to other homes and say as we have said, and when you have finished say these verses;
Numbers 17:11-13 (In some translations it is Numbers 16:46-)
“So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from YHVH. The plague has begun.”
“Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly, and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people.”
“And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped.”
They followed Rabbi Echa’s instructions and the plague stopped.
