Hebrew translation:

473. אָמַר בִּלְעָם: בִּשְׁתֵּי דְרָגוֹת רָצִיתִי לְהִכָּנֵס בָּהֶם; רָצִיתִי לְהִכָּנֵס בָּהֶם מִדַּרְגַּת יַעֲקֹב וְלֹא יָכֹלְתִּי. רָצִיתִי לְהִכָּנֵס בָּהֶם מִצַּד אַחֵר שֶׁל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא יָכֹלְתִּי. מָה הַטַּעַם? מִשּׁוּם שֶׁשֵּׁם זֶה אוֹ זֶה לֹא נִקְשָׁר בְּמִינִים רָעִים. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב לֹא הִבִּיט אָוֶן בְּיַעֲקֹב וְגוֹ’.
474. לָמַדְנוּ, שְׁתֵּי דְרָגוֹת הֵן: נַחַשׁ וְקֶסֶם. כְּנֶגְדָּן – עָמָל וָאָוֶן. אָמַר בִּלְעָם: הֲרֵי וַדַּאי נִמְצֵאתִי כְּנֶגֶד אֵלֶּה – יַעֲקֹב וְיִשְׂרָאֵל. אָוֶן כְּנֶגֶד יַעֲקֹב, שֶׁהוּא קָשׁוּר בְּנַחַשׁ. עָמָל כְּנֶגֶד יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁקָּשׁוּר בְּקֶסֶם. כֵּיוָן שֶׁרָאָה שֶׁלֹּא יָכֹל, אָמַר, וַדַּאי לֹא הִבִּיט אָוֶן בְּיַעֲקֹב וְגוֹ’. מָה הַטַּעַם? מִשּׁוּם שֶׁה’ אֱלֹהָיו עִמּוֹ וְגוֹ’.
475. וְאִם תֹּאמַר, בְּאֵלֶּה לֹא יָכֹלְתִּי, בְּקֶסֶם וְנַחַשׁ יָכֹלְתִּי – כָּתוּב כִּי לֹא נַחַשׁ בְּיַעֲקֹב וְגוֹ’. וְלֹא עוֹד, אֶלָּא שֶׁכָּל הַכֹּחוֹת שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה וְכָל מַחֲנוֹתֵיהֶם כֻּלָּם, לֹא יוֹדְעִים וְלֹא מִסְתַּכְּלִים בְּנִימוּסֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ הָעֶלְיוֹן עַד שֶׁשּׁוֹאֲלִים לַשְּׁנַיִם הַלָּלוּ – יַעֲקֹב וְיִשְׂרָאֵל. וּמָה אוֹמְרִים? מַה פָּעַל אֵל. אָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, כָּל הַדְּבָרִים הַלָּלוּ, כֹּה אָמַר. וְהוּא הֵרִים קוֹל כְּנֶגְדָּהּ וְלֹא יָדַע מַהוּ, וְלֹא נִשְׁמַע פְּרָט לְקוֹלוֹ.

Balaam said I wanted to break their shield. I wanted to enter from the level of Jacob, but I couldn’t. I wanted to get them from the level of Israel, but I couldn’t because these two levels do not connect with negativity.
Because he failed, Balaam said;
Numbers 23:21
“לֹא הִבִּיט אָוֶן בְּיַעֲקֹב וְלֹא רָאָה עָמָל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו עִמּוֹ וּתְרוּעַת מֶלֶךְ בּוֹ”
“He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. YHVH his God is with him, And the shout of a King is among them.”

We learned about two levels, snake and magic. The two Klipot, iniquity, which is witchcraft, corresponds to the level of Jacob, and perverseness, the Klipa of magic, corresponds to the level of Israel.
When Balaam couldn’t find a way against Israel, he said, “YHVH, his God is with him.”

And if you say Balaam could not pass through to Israel with iniquity and perverseness, but he knew the forms of magic and snake, and as it is written, “No iniquity in Jacob, Nor perverseness in Israel.”
More than that, all the armies above and all the camps all do not know and do not look at the ways of the supreme King until they ask the two levels of Jacob and Israel. And what do they say? “מַה פָּעַל אֵל” “What God has done.”
Rabbi Eleazar said all these things were said by the Shechina, “כה,” which is Malchut, and Balaam only raised his voice against it. He did not know what it was, and only his voice was heard from him.

Lesson;
The levels of Jacob and Israel make Zeir Anpin. Balaam, with his witchcraft, was on a level that was above Zeir Anpin, but he was on the impure side. To connect to Israel with his magic, he had to go through Malchut of the pure side, then to the level of Israel in Zeir Anpin. Because of his evilness and impurity, he couldn’t connect, and the Shechina “כה” in Malchut blocked him from reaching the levels of Jacob and Israel.

We are blessed to be on the pure side, and with our studies and spiritual connections, we have the protection of the Shechina.
