Zohar Vayeshev
Continued from previous DZ
#127
The one who does not strive for Torah in this world and becomes dirty with the filth of this world, it is written about him;
Genesis 37:24
“Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it.”
The pit is Gehenam, where those who study Torah are judged. “The pit was empty.” Without water means the lack of Torah, called “Water.”
#128
The punishment for neglecting the study of the Torah is massive. Israel was exiled from the Holy Land because they turned away from the Torah and left it.
It is said;
Jeremiah 9:11,12
“Who is the wise man who may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of Hashem has spoken, that he may declare it? Why does the land perish and burn up like a wilderness so that no one can pass through?”
“And HaShem said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it,”
Isaiah 5:13
“Therefore, my people have gone into exile Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with thirst.”
Rabbi Yossi explains that “They have no knowledge,” which means that they didn’t have a connection to the Torah, which caused their exile and ‘thirst’ for the Light.
Lesson;
The Torah study gives us elevation and connection to the upper Sefirot from the Sefira of Da’at, the Light of Chokmah, and Binah coming down to the world. Without the upper connection, we don’t have the aspect of holiness, even in the Land of Israel, and this is the state of exile.
#129
Because of this, everything in this world depends on the connection to the Torah. The world above and below cannot exists without the Torah as it is written;
Jeremiah 33:25
“Thus says YHVH: ‘If My covenant is not at day and night, I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth,”
Lesson;
The Torah animates the world because the Torah is the DNA of the world. The Zohar tells us that the Holy One, Blessed be He, was looking in the Torah and created the world. (Teruma #637). The covenant is the bond between the Torah and our patriarchs. As the children of Israel, we must keep the study of Torah on all levels to reveal its Light in the world and keep the world going.
