Hebrew translation:

164. לָמָּה בֵּין הָעַרְבַּיִם? בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁהַדִּין תָּלוּי וּבְשָׁעָה שֶׁדָּבָר זֶה נִמְסַר לוֹ עַל יְדֵי אַבְרָהָם, שֶׁכָּתוּב (בראשית טו) וַיְהִי הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ לָבוֹא וְתַרְדֵּמָה נָפְלָה עַל אַבְרָם וְהִנֵּה אֵימָה חֲשֵׁכָה גְדֹלָה נֹפֶלֶת עָלָיו. אֵימָה – כֶּתֶר אֶחָד. חֲשֵׁכָה – כֶּתֶר אַחֵר. גְּדֹלָה – זוֹ הִיא הַגְּדוֹלָה מֵהַכֹּל. וְאַף עַל גַּב שֶׁבֵּאַרְנוּ פָּסוּק זֶה עַל שְׁאָר שִׁעְבּוּדֵיהֶם שֶׁל יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְהַכֹּל הָיָה. כְּמוֹ זֶה כִּי מָחֹה אֶמְחֶה, אַתֶּם מִלְּמַטָּה, וַאֲנִי מִלְמַעְלָה.
165. שָׁנִינוּ, לֹא יָצְאוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרַיִם עַד שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרוּ כָּל הַשַּׁלִּיטִים שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה (מֵהִשְׁתַּלְשְׁלוּתָם) מִשְּׁלִיטָתָם, וְיָצְאוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵרְשׁוּתָם, וְנִכְנְסוּ לָרָשׁוּת הַקְּדוֹשָׁה הָעֶלְיוֹנָה בַּקָּדוֹשׁ-בָּרוּךְ-הוּא וְנִקְשְׁרוּ בוֹ. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב כִּי לִי בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עֲבָדִים עֲבָדַי הֵם. מָה הַטַּעַם עֲבָדַי הֵם? אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִי אוֹתָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם, שֶׁהוֹצֵאתִי אוֹתָם מֵרָשׁוּת אַחֶרֶת, וְהִכְנַסְתִּים בִּרְשׁוּתִי.

Why is it slaughtered at twilight?” Rabbi Abba responded, “It is because this is the time when judgment hangs. When this matter of the exile in Egypt was told to Abraham, it is written;
Genesis 15:12
“וַיְהִי הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ לָבוֹא וְתַרְדֵּמָה נָפְלָה עַל אַבְרָם וְהִנֵּה אֵימָה חֲשֵׁכָה גְדֹלָה נֹפֶלֶת עָלָיו.”
“Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.”
“אֵימָה” “Horror” is one Keter of the Klipa, “חֲשֵׁכָה” “darkness” is another Keter of Klipa, “גְדֹלָה” “Great” is greater Keter of all.
Although this verse was explained as a reference to other exiles of Israel – ‘horror’ for Babylon, ‘darkness’ for Persia, and ‘great’ for Greece (Beresheet Rabbah 44) – all these symbolize the three Keters of the Klippa and the exiles. Just as we said about the lamb, that the Holy One, blessed be He, said you will perform actions below, and I will break their strength above, so it is here: “I will blot out,’ you will act below, and I will act above.”

We have learned that the Israelites did not leave Egypt until all their rulers and ministers above were shattered. Thus, the children of Israel were freed from their dominion and came under the holiness of the Holy One, blessed be He, and were bound to Him. This is what is meant by
Leviticus 25:55
“כִּי לִי בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עֲבָדִים עֲבָדַי הֵם אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִי אוֹתָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם אֲנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.”
“For the children of Israel are servants to Me; they are My servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt: I am YHVH your God.”
What does ‘they are servants to me’ mean? It signifies that I brought them out from Egypt’s dominion and into My dominion.
