“Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month, every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.”
The reason for this, as explained in the Zohar, is that by taking the lamb, the lower Keter broke and with it, other lower heads (Keters) of the forces of Klipot. Moses elaborates on this by saying,
Exodus 12:21
“Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb.”
“Pick out and take lambs” (Genesis 32:6) is linked to the aspects of servants and maidservants that are the aspect of lower heads of the Klipot. Lambs include all of them, and the Egyptians made the lambs their gods.

The Holy One, Blessed be He, said: “You shall perform a deed below by drawing and taking sheep, and I will break their strength above.
Exodus 12:9
“Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire—its head with its legs and entrails.”
Just as you shall burn it with fire, I, too, above, will pass their god through the fire of the River of Dinur.

Why was the lamb taken on the tenth of the month and slaughtered on the fourteenth?” Rabbi Abba explained, “In this matter of the lamb, which was considered a deity by the Egyptians, Israel was bound under its rule for four hundred years. Although they were not enslaved for a full four hundred years, they were prepared to be attached to them for four hundred years. Had the Holy One, blessed be He, not hastened the end, it was considered as though they were enslaved for the entire four hundred years. This is why the lamb was delayed in their homes for four days, bound under their authority. Then, after four days, slaughter it;
Exodus 12:6
“Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight.”
