Rabbi Shimon said: It is written, “בֶּעָשֹׂר לַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה וְיִקְחוּ לָהֶם” “On the tenth of this month they shall take for themselves…” (Exodus 12:3), and it is also written, “אַךְ בֶּעָשֹׂר לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי הַזֶּה יוֹם הַכִּפּוּרִים הוּא” “But on the tenth day of this seventh month, it is the Day of Atonement (Yom Kipur)” (Leviticus 16:29). From this, we learn what is written, “On the tenth of this month.” The Zohar wonders and asks: What is this teaching us?
He answers: This refers to what we have learned, as it is written, “On the tenth.” This matter of taking the lamb depends on the tenth, which is Binah illuminating the Malchut, as previously explained (#160). Thus, the Zohar first draws a parallel between the tenth mentioned here and the tenth of the Day of Yom Kippur, which is associated with Binah, as is well known.
It then asks: Why is it written “of this month” (לַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה, l’chodesh hazeh), instead of “in this month” (בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה, b’chodesh hazeh)? It answers: This is because when the illumination comes to this level, which is Malchut, it is written “of this month” (l’chodesh), emphasizing that it pertains specifically to Chodesh (month), which is Malchut, called Chodesh.
