Daily Zohar # 4772 – Beshalach – When the doe cries
Daily Zohar 4772

Hebrew translation:
182. אָמַר רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, יֵשׁ אַיֶּלֶת אַחַת בָּרָקִיעַ, וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא עוֹשֶׂה הַרְבֵּה בִּשְׁבִילָהּ. בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁהִיא צוֹוַחַת, הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שׁוֹמֵעַ אֶת הַצָּרָה שֶׁלָּהּ וּמְקַבֵּל קוֹלָהּ, וּכְשֶׁהָעוֹלָם צָרִיךְ לְרַחֲמִים, הִיא נוֹתֶנֶת קוֹלוֹת, וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שׁוֹמֵעַ אֶת קוֹלָהּ, וְאָז חָס עַל הָעוֹלָם. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב (תהלים מב) כְּאַיָּל תַּעֲרֹג עַל אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם.
183. וּכְשֶׁרוֹצָה לְהוֹלִיד, הִיא נִסְתֶּרֶת מִכָּל הַצְּדָדִים, וְאָז בָּאָה וְשָׂמָה רֹאשָׁהּ בֵּין בִּרְכֶּיהָ, וְצוֹוַחַת וּמְרִימָה קוֹלוֹת, וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא חָס עָלֶיהָ, וּמְזַמֵּן כְּנֶגְדָּהּ אוֹתָהּ נָחָשׁ אֶחָד, וְנוֹשֵׁךְ בְּעֶרְוָתָהּ, וּפוֹתֵחַ אוֹתָהּ וְקוֹרֵעַ לָהּ אוֹתוֹ מָקוֹם, וּמוֹלִידָה מִיָּד. אָמַר רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, בַּדָּבָר הַזֶּה אַל תִּשְׁאַל וְאַל תְּנַסֶּה אֶת ה’, וְכָךְ דַּוְקָא.

Rabbi Yitzchak said: “At that time, when everything illuminated together, because the Light of Atika — although it consists of concealed Chassadim — nevertheless, it also includes within it Chokmah, for the Chokmah in Arich Anpin is necessarily received from it. Therefore, the Chassadim of Atika are considered more significant than the Chokmah of Arich Anpin and are regarded as encompassing it so that Chokmah and Chassadim shine together in it.
For this reason, the sea enacted the higher decrees: drowning the Egyptians and saving Israel. Both the upper and lower worlds were placed in its power. This is why we say that children, life, and sustenance are as difficult for the Holy One, Blessed be He, as the splitting of the Sea of Reeds, and everyone agrees with this. What is the reason? Because the splitting of the sea is tied to Atika.

Rabbi Shimon said: “There is a certain doe (אילה) in the land, and the Holy One, Blessed be He, does much for her. When she cries out, the Holy One hears her distress and accepts her cry. When the world needs mercy for water, she raises her voice, and the Holy One hears her cry. Then, the Holy One has mercy on the world. This is what is written: ‘כְּאַיָּל תַּעֲרֹג עַל אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם’ ‘As the deer cries longingly for streams of water…’ (Psalms 42:2).

When the doe needs to give birth, she is sealed from all sides. She places her head between her knees, cries out, and raises her voice. The Holy One, Blessed be He, has mercy on her and sends her a snake, which bites her private area, opening and tearing it so she can give birth immediately. Rabbi Shimon said: “In this matter, one should not question or test the Holy One, Blessed be He. This is exactly how it happens.”
Notes:
The birthing process of the doe (ayala) represents the spiritual dynamic of hardship followed by Hashem’s mercy. The snake, while seemingly a symbol of adversity, facilitates deliverance. This teaches the importance of trust in Hashem’s providence, even during moments of intense challenge.
