Daily Zohar # 4825 – Vayikra – If a soul shall sin?

#208
As we have learned: When the Holy One, Blessed be He, sends forth a soul to descend into a human being, He makes it testify to several promises (ya’udin) and warnings or punishments (kestorin), so that it will guard His commandments. Not only that, but He brings it through 1,008 worlds to delight in them and to behold the glory of those who engage in Torah. And the soul then stands before the King Clothed in a precious garment, resembling the form of this world. In this precious supernal garment, the soul gazes upon the King’s glory every day, and He crowns her with many crowns.
“Ya’udin” means promises, and “Kestorin” refers to punishments, according to context.
#209
At the time when the moment arrives for the soul to descend into the world, she dwells in the earthly Garden of Eden for thirty days, to behold the glory of their Master that is revealed to the righteous. After that, she ascends to her place above and then descends into the world. The Holy King crowns her with seven crowns until she comes and enters the human body. But when she is in the body, and she sins in this world and engages in darkness, the Torah is astonished at her and says: “What? The Supreme King completed all this honor and perfection for this soul—and she sins before Him? “נֶפֶשׁ כִּי תֶחֱטָא” ‘If a soul shall sin…’ (Leviticus 5:1)—What is the meaning of “If a soul shall sin?”
Notes:
This passage teaches that each soul enters the world with immeasurable honor and potential and that the greatest tragedy is not external suffering but when the soul forgets its origin and darkens its own light through sin. But the message is also one of hope: If the soul fell, it means it can also rise again—For that crown, that light, and that Eden still exists within her.
