And therefore, He asked her: “מַה לָּךְ אֵפוֹא”, What ails you now” (Isaiah 22:1), etc. She said before Him: And My children are in exile, and the Temple is burned, and You do not know? And what have I here? She opened and said: “תְּשֻׁאוֹת מְלֵאָה”, “Full of tumult” (Isaiah 22:2), etc., “אֲמָרֵר בַּבֶּכִי”, “I am embittered with weeping” (Isaiah 22:4). And we have learned that the Holy One, blessed be He, said to her: “כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה מִנְעִי קוֹלֵךְ מִבֶּכִי וְעֵינַיִךְ מִדִּמְעָה”, “Thus says YHVH: Refrain your voice from weeping” (Jeremiah 31:15).
Notes:
God questions the Shekhinah’s sorrow (מַה לָּךְ); she cries over exile and destruction (אֲמָרֵר), receiving comfort (מִנְעִי קוֹלֵךְ).

Come and see: From the day the Temple was destroyed, there was no day without curses. Because when the Temple stood, Israel performed services and offered burnt offerings and sacrifices, and the Shekhinah dwelt upon them in the Temple like a mother hovering over her children. And everyone’s faces shone, so that blessings were found above and below. And there was no day without blessings and joy. And Israel dwelt securely in the Land, and the whole world was nourished because of them.

The Temple’s presence ensured blessings and joy; its destruction brought daily curses, ending the world’s nourishment through Israel.

Now that the Temple is destroyed and the Shekhinah went with them into exile, there is no day without curses, and the world is cursed, and joys are not found above or below.

With the Shekhinah in exile, daily curses replace blessings and joy, affecting both upper and lower worlds. This reflects the loss of the union’s (zivug’s) harmony, as Malchut’s exile disrupts the divine flow.
